Some MKC observations... FWIW...

  1. Pryor "flashing"; belongs on the 53.
  2. Coleman, Kessler and Louis are missing a lot (NFL Rookie Premier Invitees).
  3. McC looks 20-something.
  4. Gilbert getting a look.
  5. Hue's practices are "lightening fast".
  6. Al Saunders' enthusiam.

Interesting note for lingering Pettine haters from the MIA section of yesterday's OTA summary:

LT Joe Thomas appeared to have his standard veteran day off.

Coon Dawg will be here 12 years.

Z

Well, The Great and Powerful Zombo has spoken & apparently either winked at another women in a hotel lobby or when Zombo post Kicker's listen. The Great & Powerful Coon Dawg is the last Kicker standing after OTA's. After a 2 day visit to Cleveland, K Jaden Oberkom decided to Retire his kicking career. Browns picked up WR 6' 2" Dennis Parks UDFA from GB that played again in Texas from Rice.. Go Owls!! Z stay out of his Hotel Lobby ;).. but, they will leave the light on for ya

Back to OTA activities today with plenty of videos & interviews at CB.com. Coleman, Duke, Crow & Pryor on the good day list. Looking like C. Coleman will be our PR specialist also. Gilbert getting a good look with a new stance & it seems like RG3 is "all in" this time. They can't seem to get him out of the building at night.. Go to work 3!! VK,JT says he's taking his days off, despite what you think :P

So the experiment of moving Gilbert to receiver is over now, right?

Kinda think that ship sailed than sunk. Hard enough to believe Pryor as a starter WR for now. But thinking Gilbert & Coleman were drafted in 1st round as return specialist may even be worse. If we have to watch the train wrecks that happen on returns Gilbert, T. Williams, M. Moore or Mostert would be easier to watch than seeing Coleman go thru what Duke did with concussions.. Game comes with risk though.

Have not been able to see much this year; but, Higgins is being said to be looking like a starter at receiver (keep in mind that this is just OTAs and things can change once the pads come on). Mostly just talk of showing potential and have to wait and see. Not sure Ogbah can make the change but I am always skeptical of 4-3 DEs changing to 3-4 OLBs. Anyway, I have seen worse on this team and others. At least they are showing improvement and the desire to improve (no divas so far).

E. Ogbah inks his deal 4yr. 6.6mill. Jackson invites H. Dixon, Kosar, S. Sanders, J. Thierry & Felix Wright to OTA's today. Gilbert chance with 1's. Browns headed your way Z. Browns announce will practice with Bucs 8-23 & 8-24 before preseason game 8-26. should be a good sweat..

I really, really dislike hearing about "changing the culture" and all of that nonsense. We've heard that for way too long, and let's be honest, for the first 11 games of Pettine's tenure, we actually THOUGHT we had it. Obviously, we know how THAT ended. The "culture" will change ONLY when two things happen: We finally get our QB, and we start winning games IN OUR DIVISION. I'm not hating on Hue Jackson, not at all, I actually REALLY like the coaches we have (Horton is the only one I'm kind of nervous about).

I'm very encouraged about what I read and see about Pryor, and I'm guessing he's the reason that Hartline was let go now, and not earlier. Coaches got a look at what Pryor can really do, and I don't think he's a "gadget" player anymore. The icing on the cake would obviously be Gordon, but I'm not even sure we'd take him back.

I'm also very encouraged about our offense in general. Hue knows how to run the ball, and we have to get the ground game rocking to take SOME pressure off the passing game. If Hue thinks Crow can carry the load with some Duke sprinkled in, so be it. I love running the ball, and I'm hoping beyond hope we have the right guys.

If we're going to win a few games this year and not COMPLETELY suck, we're going to need a few things to go our way. First, we need the injury bug to be gentle. It's the NFL, and injuries happen to every team, but we can't have the "big ones" to certain players. Next, we need our defense to get to the QB and force some turnovers. We need as many extra possessions as possible, and when we DO get in the red zone, we need to increase our red zone percentage. How will we do against the run? That's another HUGE aspect we need to improve on. I know the QB is the hottest topic, but it won't matter who is back there if we're getting our ass blown off again.

I see that our coaches and writers are also trying to make me drink the "Justin Gilbert Kool-Aid"...I am resisting. Perhaps the only good thing about Haden having surgery is Gilbert is getting another look, but I remain very pessimistic. I hope to hell and back that Gilbert works out, but I'll believe it when I see it.

I think we're going to be a tougher team, and that alone is a big plus to me. Of course, we won't know until the pads come on, but let's face it...Pettine didn't run a tough camp, or physical practices. I heard that from a bunch of witnesses and our radio guys said the same thing. Hue Jackson doesn't play that crap, and it sounds like "summer camp" is over and our boys will have to work their asses off. We won't be in a situation where we get "out conditioned", and I like that. Ogbah and Nassib seem like "tough guys", and that's what I want. Ogbah could honestly be the steal of the entire draft. I can't WAIT to see him. Nassib won't have the stats (in my opinion) right away, but I wouldn't sleep on him either.

No, we didn't think we had it. I love hearing the "change of culture" ... except that we are SEEING IT.

More elaborate criteria for drafting players, upbeat positives, bringing in retired veteran Browns players...

The biggest culture change - is teaching. In the past, young players often would be on the sidelines

until they left, and were taught how to play/developed, and became starters.

They've changed Gilbert's stance of the los, for one thing. Kessler says he has already learned about twenty things

from them - maybe it was mostly about footwork,

These coaches know how to TEACH their players. Pettine and co, had no clue what to teach, what to change,

or how to do it.

Really HUGE difference now ! This REAL coaching staff will be TEACHING, and that will encourage the young players

like crazy, and inspire the veterans. I see REAL change already - and more wins than last year. Wait and see.

Only thing worse than off-season is off-season with unfounded expectations. By August we will be declared Superbowl Champs.

This is a team that smoked a lot of it's experienced players across the board with a bunch of rookies to replace them and several of them were reaches.

Yeah-----Duvall got it right.

DB Derrick Kindred puts ink to paper on 4yr. 2.839M with 500k signing bonus. Really think this is our draft sleeper. A Clarence Scott, damn I hope so :).

To say that Hue appears to have been able to recruit better position coaches is not revelatory. To say that OTA performance is a basis for assessing a CB's improvement is ludicrous.

Remember the knocks on Gilbert? They were:

  1. initially he lacked technique; and
  2. later he did not trust his technique.

Somewhere between there he learned "technique"... brochures?

As for Kessler... weak support on at least two counts:

  1. all the regime changes at USC; and
  2. it's Kessler.

I've no doubt Shaw could have said the same thing... ditto for the other QB we took that year.

Browns final OTA's came to a close today. Hue decided as a team they would do a team charity golf outing on Thursday as their last activity. YEA HUE!! Two 4th rounders WR Ricardo Louis & TE Seth Devalve have signed their rookie contracts. No contract details avalible. A 3 day mini camp next week will wrap up off season program till summer training camp. Where Hue promises he will announce a starting QB.(at sometime :P)

In a era when coaches decry the amount of time the CBA allows them to prepare their team it seems odd to give a day over to golf.

Are there any rookies unsigned at this point?

I think he means to use it as a bonding experience. Which is fine.

I just wonder if it is one of those golf tournaments that have strippers out on the course to wash your balls with their snatch.

That might be a good idea, it would make it easier for a bloodhound to find The Lost Ones.

Yep, four. The Rookie pay scale is bottled up by a few late 2rd & 3rds. not signed. None of our 3rd round picks DE Carl Nassib, OL Shon Coleman, QB Cody Kessler & one at top of 4th round OLB Joe Schobert. ARE ONLY BROWNS DRAFTEE's NOT SIGNED.. Edit---To our golf fans, The Browns are all participating in The 17th Annual C.Browns Foundation of Northeast Ohio Charity Golf Event. We actually had 8 of our allotted 10 OTA's, so in reality we gave up 2 practices. CUZ HUE SAID SO .

Browns Veteran Players will join 14 draft picks,11 Plus UTFA's & to my count 6 FA signings for a 3 day Veterans Mini Camp starting Tuesday 6-7 thru Thursday 6-9-16. 5 QB's..7 of the 12 WR's have not made a NFL catch (not including Pryor's 1). G. Barniage will be out with sports hernia surgery so that leaves the TE battle for DeValve, Bibbs, Telfer, JP Holtz & Hamlett a open camp to decide the lead for the #2 TE. Let's get to training camp with 90 healthy & When the good news happens be sure to tell us about it here. Go Browns!!

The Browns will take the field with most of their 90-man roster and four tryout players when the team's three-day veteran minicamp begins this afternoon.

The four tryout players are:

TE Kevin Haplea - 6-3, 245 (Florida State)

TE Arthur Lynch - 6-5, 250 (Georgia)

K Patrick Murray - 5-7, 182 (Fordham)

RB Rajion Neal - 5-11, 210 (Tennessee)

Lynch and Murray carry two years of experience while Haplea, who had a brief stint with the Browns last season, and Neal have one.

The Browns will hold three practices over the next three days before breaking for the summer. The team will return at the end of July for the start of training camp.

Well it is baseball season. Vet. Camp did start today. So what would be wrong with RG3 "hanging one just a bit outside". the fence that is. RG3 decided to throw one away today. Cleared a 16 foot fence. Some say he can't hit the broad side of a barn. But how about a Garage B). Of course RG3 took it in high spirits with a fist pump & a Yes!!.. Kessler working with QB guru Tom House. WR Jordan Payton will not be at camp. When drafted FO knew would still be in school but Hue & Saunders can coach him up to speed. Hang Shon Coleman on the contract signed list..Leaving only 3 left not signed (Nassib,Kessler & Schobert). Loads of coach & players interviews at CB.com
