Despite their successful record they folded because at that time intercontinental travel was too prohibitive. In fact, for much of the year the LA Buccaneers actually were based in Chicago. 2. A. Which division did the TB Bucs play in during their first year in the league, 1976? They started in the AFC West with the likes of the Broncos/Chargers/Raiders....but after one year they switched to the NFC B. What other expansion franchise came in with the Bucs in 1976? The Seattle Seahawks started in the NFC West. After one year the Bucs and Seahawks traded places. The Seahawks were in the AFC West for 20-25 years until they switched back to where they started in the NFC West. 3. The Bucs original owner, Hugh Culverhouse, had actually contracted to purchase an existing NFL franchise, but was thwarted in his attempt... Which team was that? The Los Angeles Rams. Culverhouse had an agreement with the Estate of Dan Reeves to buy the Rams....but then someway somehow Robert Irsay got into the picture and bought the Rams....and immediately traded them for the Colts with Carroll Rosenbloom....who became Rams owner.
