Alabama will be playing its second straight road game against a ranked opponent. The Tide opened a 35-10 lead in the first half against Arkansas before taking their foot off the gas a little after halftime. They still finished the game with more than 500 yards of total offense despite having possession for just under 23 minutes.

Second-ranked Ohio State will likewise face a ranked road test against Wisconsin. The Buckeyes looked a little shakier than expected in their 38-17 win over Indiana but nonetheless won their fifth straight game by three or more touchdowns.

J.T. Barrett threw for just 93 yards and struggled as a passer for most of the contest. Luckily, he added 137 of the Buckeyes' 290 yards on the ground as they scampered for four scores.

ALA -13 at TEN

OSU -10' at WISC

So do they both cover? Trap games?

NC State at #3 Clemson -17'

#4 Michigan bye with a pretty easy schedule until Nov. 26

#5 Texas A&M bye with ALA next, LSU Nov. 24

#6 Washington bye with maybe the easiest schedule of all left, WSU Nov. 25

If Alabama knocks off Texas A&M they might drop.

And the Michigan/OHIO STATE winner probably knocks the other out of the top 4.

So who's left 1. 2. 3. 4. ? Barring any major upsets from week 7 on it might be easier than we thought, well for 3 of the 4 for sure.

washington hasn't really played anyone either i believe going out to utah could be a loss

I remember before the season a lot of talking heads were building up the P10 and saying how good teams like UCLA were going to be blah, blah, blah well I bit into it for a couple of weeks not now. Washington has a great shot as an easy final four candidate, maybe #4. On Utah let's check a tool odds makers and bettors use:

COLLEGE POWER RATINGS

Instructions...Pers is the personnel rating... in other words a teams raw talent. Then two other factors are to be considered: the Coaching (rated 1 to 5) and the field advantage (HF) of the home team, also rated one to five. Subtract the total value of the visitor (P+C) from that of the home club (P+C+HF). If you consider coaching important, youll profit from this method. Even if you dont make the calculations, play the better coaches, particularly in games where the line is 7 or less!

....P..C..H

ALA 63 5 4

OSU 59 5 4

CLM 59 4 4

MIC 57 4 4

TAM 54 3 4

WAS 54 4 4

UTA 47 4 4 <--- Not really in the top 3 or 4 class but maybe a touchdown behind Washington on a neutral field, less at home.

So there you go. ......

So home field is ranked 1-5 but OSU, Michigan, Alabama, Clemson, and A&M are only 4s? Is LSU the only 5 or something?

A little more information about the COLLEGE POWER RATINGS, I've been getting the Official Vegas Rotation Sheet for over 40 years now, it shows all of the D-1A games in the Vegas betting order with the opening lines a handy thing to have especially if you're a "player". It used to come in the mail but now is pretty much by subscription and downloaded.

Mine also has the weekly power ratings which are handy as a guide and the numbers change very slowly. Home field used to be a bigger deal but now all the teams that I put up all here have a 4 largely because facilities now are pretty close. The head coaches might be a more important indicator now (Saban, Meyer both 5).

Most schools are 3 or 4 on home field but of all D-1A schools below are the only biggest exceptions and yes they sometimes surprise me. I'd like to print all of them here but I don't think that they would fit.

......P...C...H

OKL 54 3 5

WIS 49 4 5...the only two 5 on home field

MASS 18 3 1

NMST 20 3 1....the only two 1 on home field

And of course you have to use your judgement on things like weather, player availability, rivalries, consecutive road games (big deal!) and other factors.

So again there you go. .......

Oklahoma and Wisconsin have home field advantages a hair above anyone else in the country? Huh?

To tell you truth when I went over the whole ~100+ team list I was surprised, no death valleys? LSU? Clemson? No Big house? Touchdown Jesus? I guess not anymore plus home field isn't what it was 20+ years ago and when you really think about it it's probably true.

So Mad town and OKL? Really OKL oh well maybe that's why Urban Meyer is going on 20-0 on the road at Ohio State.

There weren't even that many 2 fields either and only two 1 fields.

How is the P rating determined?

Believe it or not I'm not EXACTLY sure but I know it's a combination of historical, computer and "other" data similar but exactly what they use in BCS bowl and final four seedings which happen later in the season.

I do know if you look at a weekly matchup the above formula gets you close to the actual opening line.

Also there is a list of who actually sets the lines for every single casino out there! It's available on vegasinsider.com if you want to click around.

I have to run now but will check later......for my own curiosity.

Did some checking on ratings (not rankings) systems. .....

.....Sports ratings systems have been around for almost 80 years, when ratings were calculated on paper rather than by computer, as most are today. Some older computer systems still in use today include: Jeff Sagarin's systems, the New York Times system, and the Dunkel Index, which dates back to 1929. Before the advent of the College Football Playoff, the Bowl Championship Series championship game participants were determined by a combination of expert polls and computer systems....

Many years back I used Jeff Sagarin a statistician from MIT, free out of USA TODAY since 1985 for general information.

I'm going to email my service and see what they say, some might not want to divulge information on any proprietary or paid services, we'll see.

8:00 PM 2 Ohio State @ 8 Wisconsin ABC Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit

ESPN's GAMEDAY is live from Camp Randall this week.

Ohio State -10 looks good to me even there, Wisconsin just doesn't have the ground game like years past, Buckeyes need to win this one.

One thing often overlooked in the weekly rankings, from the AP week 7.......

Others receiving votes: Georgia 59, Arizona State 53, North Carolina 51, LSU 50, Oklahoma State 48, North Dakota State 36, Stanford 26, Colorado 22, South Florida 20, TCU 14, Washington State 9, NC State 9, Iowa 3, Air Force 2, San Diego State 2, Wake Forest 1

D-1AA ND State got 36 votes among the big boys but then again the Bison are it in ND more than any other D-1A or even pro team and with the machine humming with recruiting, etc. looks like they will steam roll again.

And look at the other D-1A teams the once mighty LSU, Stanford, TCU, Iowa and what ever happened to Georgia?

Georgia is breaking in a new coach and a true freshman QB. They will be fine.

Georgia used to be more of a perennial powerhouse than they are now or so it seems, only one 12+ game winning season since 2003.

So far the Buckeyes have their hands full, Wisconsin QB looks ok, they're running the ball....well one long run w/fumble but got it back on review. Wisconsin playing good D or OSU not in gear yet.

WISC 10-6 2nd quarter.

BUCKEYES 30-23 IN OT.

BUCKEYES a bit sloppy on the road but Wisconsin played pretty good.

Oh Urban 20-0 on the road. ;)
