Cleveland Browns' Mike Pettine ranks 31st among NFL coaches in ESPN survey

Who gives a shit what they think? The guy hasn't even coached a single regular season game.

He has also had to deal with the JM circus, Gordon suspension, and a fan base that is desperate for a winning but will turn on you in an instant. Not to mention he has a boss that's showed he has no issue firing people after a year.

I'm sure he's stressed as all hell. So why don't we wait to see how regular season goes before we get the pitchforks?

We've gone from ripping QBs for their preseason performance while recovering from an ACL to bashing coaches who have not coached a football game yet.

Seriously ... Can he coach a quarter before we call for his head?

Glad to see im not alone in my rather harsh but honest "early assessment" of coach Pettine..

Hopefully he will eventually get it but i really would not count on it..

Possibly the worst coach the browns have ever hired..

Gips, why don't you just buy a pistol and put it in your mouth? You are the most negative piece of shit I have ever heard.

My "early assessment" of you is that you are a jerkoff.

How can you assess a coach who hasn't been the head coach in a single regular season game yet?

Yeah. except your "early assessment" was already made in january ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ BEFORE Pettine was even hired. You're just a worthless whiny bitch. Go back to Pittspuke you loser!

Tom Landry 0-11-1 in his first season......considered one of the worst coaches in the league

Chuck Noll 1-13 in his first season....considered one of the worst coaches in the league

Bill Walsh 1-15 in his first season....considered one of the worst coaches in the league

Jimmy Johnson 1-15 his first season....considered one of the worst coaches in the league.

At least Pettine has company.

The cowards at espn will refuse to stick their neck out about the Browns

until they start winning.

That isn't on Pettine, anything else is complete BS.

This...

The guy hasn't even coached a single regular season game.

That bottom tier is stacked with first year coaches. Jason Garrett (who is severely hamstrung by "coach" Jerrah) is one of the few down there who has more that one season.

Interesting bit to me was how fast the totals fall after Sean Peyton. Apparently there are fewer elite coaches than there are elite QBs.

Read quite a few post on here re Browns bush league performance last sat night. yep, the coach has to take the sword for that sordid fiascal. if espn based their rankin on ps week 3

performances then petine surely qualifies for the 31 slot. Not fair to rate until regular season? yea, I can go for that but again I saw nothing besides some stellar individual defensive

perfomances that gave me any hope for a week 1 to week 16 competitive team. ......soooo look for petine to wallow in the league coaching suckage

also interesting how almost all of the "elite" coaches also happened to have elite personal and elite QB'S and elite GM's.....

IMO, it takes a great GM and great players to build a great coach....it seems like all the great coaches LOST when they had crap teams, but WON when they had good teams....so is it the coach or the players that makes a great team....???

An example......when Green Bay won the SuperBowl ...."suddenly" Ron Wolf was the best GM out there, Holmgren became the best coach/president/gm out there and Favre was the best QB.....and ALL have been mentioned as THE reason GB won....could it just be they had the best team???

Player talent isn't the only ingredient to NFL success. The foundation for a culture of winning often is set by a coach strong in leadership, organization and control. Could be

that petine has spent too much time putting out fires at the expense of winning-culture-cultivation. Like the old saying goes: "it's hard to remember that the primary objective is to drain the

the swamp when you are up to your ass in gators."

I understand that. And there have been bad coaches who didn't win with talent too....

My point is that, HISTORICALLY, coaches(and QB's, ftm) who win SuperBowls are often elevated to GREAT......while they were considered fairly average prior to winning it all.....

could be he's holding a lot of what they're going to do in the regular season close to his vest.

i KNOW this team is not as bad as what we've seen in preseason. i know it.

he's had a lot to decipher in TC in a short amount of time and if nothing else this preseason was just an extension of that and is sifting through talent and situations to decide who stays and who goes.

who really knows what is going on inside the browns facility? the guy might be the best coach ever and this was all a plan to throw off our comp and to leave them guessing until the browns open up the bomb bay doors over pittsburgh.

if not, go to the bank and invest in some drink ware cuz there's always plenty of booze available down at your local sack and sip. 15 years of sluggin down beers and cocktails on sundays (and whenever else a cleveland team loses) and the liver's still going strong.

Im with you. You'd think we would wait to see at least ONE game plan before we start slagging the poor guy.....damn.....

And, compared to Shurmur and Mangini who couldn't even get the team on and off the field or get plays in correctly, this guy already has them doing the "basics" right. The only delay or procedural screw up I've seen was Johnny not knowing how to call the play.....

Personally, I think he'll have this defense ripping off heads in no time and will have a better 1st year record than ANY Browns coach since 1999...

Jesus fuck...you guys realize that this is going to be a difficult year already as it is right? I mean you cannot tear up the organization every two years and expect some foundation to be left behind. The Browns weren't gonna win a lot of games this year no matter what. Lombardi could rise from the dead and maybe get us a shade under .500. Realistically we're gonna win a couple games and HOPEFULLY at least make a fight out of it so that Sunday nights we can all say at least some great fucking football was played. If that happens I don't care if we go 0-16. Wins take time and if you mother fuckers are already calling for Pettine's job than honestly the last 15 years of misery are because of Browns fans. How difficult is Pettine's job already as it is? Just leave him the fuck alone. We can't fire him, we used up those knee jerk ur fired cards. Now if we fire a HC barring some massive lockeroom revolt we become the least desirable destination in NFL history. The Browns are consigned not just to the North basement for all of time, we'll be in the NFL's basement. Might as well just send the team off somewhere else again..is that what you fuckers want? Cause if this organization becomes anymore of a joke that it already is, some city somewhere is gonna make Haslem an offer he can't refuse and the NFL will not stop it. Please god just leave Pettine the fuck alone for a couple years. For the love of fucking god. If things don't work out with the players he's inherited let him build a team.

Food for thought, had we stayed with Mangini we'd probably be owning the North right now especially seeing how the division has fallen off. We're still in the window but's it's closing quick. If we fire Pettine anytime in the next few years and do another redo you can forget about it. We had an opportunity to step on the rest of the North as they were reshuffling. Had we stuck to our guns honestly with any of the last 3 coaches we'd be at the top of the North forcing the other teams to respond to moves we make. That's how teams ascend to divisional dominance and stay there.

damn G, well friggin said.

i agree with everything 100% and i too believe if mangini were still here we'd be a dominant team. go ahead blast us for saying that but we've all seen what a one and two year plan does for a team,

AB-SO-FUCKING-LUTE-LY NOTHING.

Watching the Saturday night goat fuck I , too, was thinking of how the hell a team playing at that level could remain a viable brand in the NFL. How long will Haslam put up with

the suckage before he looks to unload? Unlike the previous owner, who didn't care, haslam has a firm eye on the financial bottom line. Browns fans are stuck between a rock and a

hard place...continue to spend money on tix and concessions to watch a substandard team or quit going to the stadium which will be the beginning of the end. Don't know if the

hard core could cope with another Browns move. Notice you didn't see a lot of tv stadium shots in the second half of Saturdays game.....primarily because the great majority of the

fans were heading out the door in the second quarter. That lost peanut and beer revenue didn't sit well with has along with his' teams performance. The notion that the Browns

are cloak and daggering their offense really doesn't hold water.....especially since it was the first home performance of 2014. That show left the fans with little hope for 2014. Factor

in today's JG news and things look even more dismal

ps Last I heard of mangenius was that he is a commentator for the afl

coaching mistakes, really?

is he supposed to block a DE or catch a football?

some of you guys are too frickin much.

i hope your employer gave you more slack moving into a new position than y'all are giving pettine. everything right now is brand new to everybody there. players still must be accountable for playing basic flippin football. i don't care if i or you were calling plays, the player still knows (or supposed to know) the fundamentals of how to block, how to tackle and how to catch. that's not on pettine or any of the coaches.

I'm a Browns fan, not a Pettine fan. If he can get us winning, great.

What I've seen is a series of rookie coaching mistakes. Hope he gets it together soon.

Really? "Rookie coaching mistakes??" Really? From a rookie coach?? OMG!!!!!! fire him...

Organization, control and teaching are certainly coaching roles. didn't see any of those Saturday night. Team was not ready to play competitively and that falls directly on the coach. I want the mother fuckers to win as much as anyone else and I hope I am dead wrong but it will be a minor miracle if the Browns win four games this year with their fifth choice of the coaching selection process of earlier this year.
