THE BROWNS BOARD

The Las Vegas Raiders

The Gipper

Recommended Posts

I don't recall this fact having been noted on here, but on January 19th, the Raiders submitted their application to move to Las Vegas.

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/01/19/sports/raiders-move-to-las-vegas-nfl.html?_r=0

Though, unlike the Chargers and Rams moves to LA, it appears that the Raiders will continue to play in Oakland for at least 2 more years.

I wonder if the wisdom of that can be questioned.

But, here is a good question: will the Raiders in Vegas be as popular in LA as are the Rams and the Chargers? They just very well may be.

Will the Raiders maintain a fan base in the East Bay area? Or will those fans shift their allegiances to the 49ers. (Will the Chargers maintain a fan base in the San Diego area? MarkO seems to think not)

Will Ghoolie be switching his allegiance to the Raiders if/when he moves to LV?

Will this group organize a tailgate to go to LV to see the Browns play the Raiders?

Raiders fans will never give up on their team no matter where they will move to. They will travel through the desert to see their favorite team. Iam sure all the Las Vegas football fans will accept the Raiders as their new home team, and the Raiders fan base will grow even more.

Just curious, why do you think that? I mean I doubt too many fans would stay a fan of a team that ran off for more money. I guess the one thing there is that NoCal Raider fans have had it happen before, and they may also realize that they did, likely by far, have the worst stadium situation in the league, and that the team really did need a new venue...and they knew the people of Calif. were not going to pay for one. So, perhaps it is a far cry say from the Brown situation....or the Chargers.

(Interesting point....I understand that the people of San Diego wanted nothing to do with LA....but what if the Chargers say, had moved to Orange County....or somewhere else completely, like San Antonio?)

Gipper, I will be living in Las Vegas by that time, most likely Stan will too. I would consider the Las Vegas a rebirth of my interest and loyalty to an NFL football team. Stan likewise is at the end of his rope with this fucktard of a team, fanbase, and cluture.

Browns fans, and yeah, I sue 90% of the people here, have become really, really fucking weird. Reality doesn't mean anything to Browns fans. Loyalty is one thing, but reality is a rarity in Browns town. No matter how bad the team is, no matter how bad the draft, coaches, game plan, and performance is, Browns fans have a fucking excuse. More Steeler fans in Ohio? Ah, its those dumb fucking people.

And fans, once tough, have become pussies. Look at Zomblow, post something he doesn't like, he pulls the post. What is to love about the Browns? In all honesty, the Ravens are the Browns, I hang here mainly to kibbutz with my old pals. i don't think you will have football in Cleveland 5 years from now. he fan base is shrinking, and most people around the nation don't even remember a good season, let alon the glory years.

Yeah, The Vegas Raiders will be a natural for me.

Will there be a tailgate to Vegas? I would bet not.

Ah, I might go to a Browns game & tailgate in Vegas. Though that city has around zero interest to me- and anyone else who is smart enough to realize 99% of the people who gamble heavily are going to lose money, and probably a lot of it. Got a few folks here in SW Ohio that are going to be\ are spending serious time in the slammer for bilking banks and investment customers to feed their gambling addiction. I get no thrill watching those lights flashin' and things dingin' while I'm losing money. Rather go to one of the restaurants and have a nice dinner with wine.

It's a good landing place to get somewhere else like Zion or the Grand Canyon. To paraphrase a Wyoming joke. The two prettiest sights in Nevada are Wheeler Peak- and seeing Las Vegas in your rear view mirror.

Well, Ghoolie, I think you are about 95% wrong with what you say...but your comments are understandable from a certain point of view. There is really nothing wrong with the fan base or culture....of the Browns. Nothing that winning some would not help. It is tough to get beaten down constantly. There are issues with the American sports fans in general. Too many FRAKs. Like you said, those dumb fucking Steeler fans in Ohio. I don't know if it is a generational thing. I am old school loyal. Younger people go with whomever wins, whomever wins makes them feel good about themselves I guess. They have to be give participation trophies, so they bestow one upon themselves by just going for a team that wins.

No, the problem with the Browns is not the fans. The problem is with the organization. Fans have no control over that.

Also, of course, you are wrong about the Browns moving. It is a legal impossibility. Not sure why you don't comprehend that.

Yet, if you go to Vegas....I can see where you could adopt an affinity for the local franchise. ( I guess a good question is: would a Las Vegas fan base be nearly as loyal as a Cleveland fan base? I kinda doubt it.)

But one thing I would wager on: If/when you go out there, and you begin to support the Raiders.....as soon as the Browns start winning, and they will at some point.....your heart strings will be tugged back to the Seal Brown and Orange direction.

Fair to say?

I don't mind a little flutter here and there. But I do have to budget for that sort of entertainment. My timeshare sits right in the center of the Las Vegas Strip...Polo Towers. I am sure many have seen it who have been there. But,actually, in 21 years, I have never stayed there. I have always traded it to go elsewhere.

And to me, Vegas has also been just the airport to land to get somewhere else: Zion/Bryce/Capitol Reef/Great Basin/ Grand Canyon/Death Valley/Yosemit/Sedona. My brother working near Bishop Cal., and Vegas would be the closest airport to there

Isn't the proposed stadium they are to build a Dome? I know that Adelson is supposed to have backed out, but, there are other major investors that could step in.

Agreed

LA to LV = 263 miles

SF to LV = 570 miles

SF to LA = 382 miles

Its shorter for LA raider fans to drive to Vegas than drive North to Frisco. SF Raiders fans have a tougher time, but its not insurmountable. Virgin flies SF to Vegas for $151 round trip today. Its likely more during football season though.

I have said that I think there may continue to be as many Raider fans in LA as there will be Rams or Charger fans. Do you have any experience to think that statement might be true?

Also, Adelson is like 85 years old. He probably wouldn't eve be around to see the plan through. Not sure if the article says what his kids would think about the deal.

. Look at Zomblow, post something he doesn't like, he pulls the post.

What is to love about the Browns?

Not true, I have never pulled a Browns fans post because I didn't "like it". It would have to be racist, complaining about moderation, or a personal threat of a familiar nature (I know where you live ... I know your wife, etc.) for me to delete a Browns fan's post.

We have three classifications of posters here, with three sets of rules, Browns Fans, Steeler Trolls, and Ass Fucks.

Browns Fans: This is 98% of the posters on here. Can pretty much say anything with the exception to the above. Sometimes posts are moved or merged to keep the flow going, but in the history of the Browns Board, since 2003, not one Browns fan has had his post deleted because somebody didn't like his opinion.

Steeler Trolls: This covers all fans of other teams that visit our home, Steelers, Ravens, Patriots, etc. This is our home, and they need to be respectful of it. We keep them around at times for added flavor. Some learn the ropes and become regulars ... but they are never Browns fans. Mods can delete them or suspend them for any reason ... they have no rights.

Ass Fucks: This is you. Ass Fucks are here solely to troll Browns fans. They have a personal agenda, not tied to the team. They hate on everything and stand for nothing. While they can be interesting and entertaining at times, they require moderation to keep them from overtaking the board and scaring off Browns fans that would like to come here and talk Browns football. We limit Ass Fucks to a couple threads a week, and we often have to take action when they shit on the thread of a Browns fan that is not warranted. They are basically overgrown children that, left to their own devices, would bully everyone, shit all over everything and make the board unreadable. This is the only group that requires constant moderation. You are the only Ass Fuck.

Well, there is actually one group below the Ass Fucks, that is spammers. We mark them as spammers and they are deleted immediately never to be seen again.

So the Board runs pretty good this way, always has, nothing has changed, it's not any softer, but the losing had had its toll at times. We got through the worst season in Browns history and we are going to butt heads all off season like we always do, I hope there are a lot of entertaining scrapes along the way. It promises to be our most lively draft and free agency discussion since 99. Gonna be fun.

What's to love about the Browns? The fans. We're a Band of Brothers. Must suck to be on the outside. Explains the bitterness, I guess.

You asked would the Raiders still be popular in LA with the team moving to Vegas. No?

My answer was yes because travel from LA to Vegas for a game can be easily accomplished in 1 day.

Yea, generally it will now be easier, and more fun I guess for Raider fans from LA to make Raider games once they move.

And MarkO, who lives in the LA/OC area, confirmed that the Raiders would be more popular in LA than either the Rams or Chargers.

Interesting.

But God almighty we have to have a team in LA...because...well, its LA and Jerry Jones wants a team there because he thinks there is more money to be made there.

It is really embarrassing if MarkO is right and a team from out of town is more popular i there than the two teams located there.

Betting on football games is a good time at Ceasars Palace or the Mirage. College opening day is the bomb. As long as you gamble on games the drinks are free.

March Madness, for the NCAA is great too.

Only walking to the Dome. LOL it's a dry heat. I don't care if it's zero humidity- 120 is not survivable for long. With all due respect to you- southern guy, I blame Willis Carrier- the inventor of AC, for reshaping the demographics of America. Would you really want to live where you are without it? Proof is since 1940 the population of Vegas has grown by a factor of almost 19. From 8,400 to over 1.5 million. I've always said if ISIS wanted to destroy the US, all they'd have to do is take out the power grid- there'd be chaos within a week. With that in mind- it's why the government spent millions to divert US 93 (used to go over) the Hoover Dam- no longer. A McVeigh truckload of high explosives detonated on top of it, would have been bye-bye Vegas and a bunch of other towns. Ghoolie has a thing on his FaceBook page "water is the new gold" and population growth in the desert southwest is going to be limited by that factor sooner or later.

Ah, another example of NFL greed Gip. Go where the money is, not necessarily the TV market and population. Vegas is the 42nd market. You get out of Vegas and Henderson- there's a whole lot of nuthin'.

Well at the risk of giving away that I'm just a couple of months shy of 70, I never experienced AC when growing up in sweltering, humid Beaumont, Texas. But when you grow up that way you aren't really aware you're missing something. You just go shoeless from May-Sept and develop the callouses to kill bees with a bare foot.

Ghoolie, why would you want to move to vegas?

I thought about it but after spending a couple of weeks there I realized how sick you get fremont street and the strip after a short amount of time there.

there's nothing to do in vegas but drink and gamble, and it's in the middle of the desert.

wouldn't it make more sense to retire in california or florida?

California is going to fall into the Pacific Ocean, Florida and Texas among other southern states is going to turn into South America with Zika, new neighbors and who knows what else.

The West is only habitable with AIR CONDITIONING and fighting over water.

I'm going to stay in OH-IO.

Apparently it is in doubt now.

Heard that Sheldon Adelson has pulled his financial support for the proposed stadium. Seems odd since he reportedly did not spend much on this election.

Ghoolie may be able to get a playing gig there. If he can make a living there doing that more power to him. He would not be gambling and drinking if he doesn't want to (hell, I can gamble and drink right here) I mean, he can be wrong about things about 66% of the time...but he has the right to make a living the way he wishes.

I expect we would all be surprised about the demand for accordian players.
