Moderators, sorry for the baseball thread. Move it if you want to. i'm OK with that.

i'm cold and i'm tired of seeing these junk ball pichers as closers. As an Indians fan, i've watched junk ballers like Skid Monge, Doug Jones, Wickman, and now Borowski trying to close games for the Tribe.

i miss the days when Jose Mesa came in and you knew the game was over. He was a true closer. Mr. Shapiro, as a GM you have a duty to find that guy and give him to Wedge to hold a lead in the 9th. Even when Borowski was good- he was bad. Please find a fastball pitcher that can throw the ball over the plate in the 9th.

My mom just turned 74 tonight and she loves the Indians. She never misses a game on TV. i took her to the game and Borowski broke her heart (as usual). Mr. Shapiro, please find closer. A real one.

waiting on Shapiro, is like waiting on a jewish banker who has to okay your loan.

sometimes i think shapiros has incentives in his contract to such as if you get x amount of wins under this salary you get this bonus. and if thats the case then it falls upon the owner for being such a cheap skate!

Borowski is terrible. He lost us the game. Send him to single A ball where he belongs (if that).

I know we're less than 15 games in but this has got to stop. We have INEPT players at closer and leftfield. Michaels is suitable as a backup but Dellucci isnt even that. He can't throw, hit, or run. Yet there he is in LF. Borowski cant throw over 84mph and hes closing games. Notice the difference tonight between Joe and Papelbon? Joe comes in and even the announcer said how the 9th could be interesting. Papelbon comes in and its 1-2-3...no surprise.

Shapiro: the time is now. Put Betancourt at closer (leaving Perez and Jensen Lewis for the 7th and 8th) and bring up Francisco. Leave Michaels as a backup and tell Dellucci to hit the road. There is nothing wrong with seeing a player is terrible and making a move before the season is lost (see Frye, Charlie)

I have been saying all along that Borowski is not a closer. He is a poor mans Bob Wickman, and Wickman was not that great either.
I have no idea why Francisco is not playing LF, he played really well this spring, yet Dellucci and Michaels are playing. They suck and should only be platooning once in awhile.

What a joke to have a closer who's fastball tops out at 84 MPH. Sports writers from around the country are asking if he is hurt. The answer is no, he just sucks. Didn't we bring in the top closer from Japan for a reason? Also, Bentancourt needs to be given a chance. You can close by committee, anthing but JoBo. They need to put him on the DL and send him to extended spring training to work on his arm strength and to see if he can maybe be a long man in relief. If not, release him.

Many in the organization and some friends from other teams told Shapiro and Wedge to move Peralta to 3rd base and bite the bullet on Marte.

As for LF, RF and 3B. Let's don't wait until we are 15 games out of first. Time to make Blake a utility man. Give Marte a decent shot and move on. Francisco has about 1000 minor league at bats. I'm tired of watching these guys strike out with runners in scoring position and less then 2 outs. Then, we have a RF that can't hit a curve ball or righthanded pitcher, but he is good defensively............BIG DEAL

Problem is, they are afraid to eat the money.

Dolan is putrid in comparison to Jacobs

Dumb luck struck will be the mantra for some time

Maybe I am a dumb SOB but why is Kenny Lofton not on this team? Is he an ideal Left Fielder? NO, however, he is a leader and a ignitor and WANTS to be in Cleveland. This team (right now) is desperate for leaders. Lofton has never been afraid to grab the bull by the horns and WIN.

This is a good point, he may be getting old, but he played not too bad last year, in the short time he was here. Why not platoon him once in awhile in LF, it's not like Dellucci and Michaels are great players.

The answer is yes, he's hurt. It may be due to advanced age or an ailment, but he's hurt. He's "just suck(ed)" forever as a closer and I think it's silly to suggest that sports writers from around the country didn't understand that all along.

The reason being an extra arm in the pen.

Which is it, bite the bullet on Marte or give him a decent chance?

Try more than twice that. Nearly 2500 plate appearances.

Agreed. Well, not so much about the "good defensively - big deal" thing, but I agree with the rest.

Really? People still believe this?

It must be a comfort thing.

A pillow used to kick when things don't go well.

It's not true, of course, but it's turned into the rally cry of the downtrodden.

This is a pretty fine organization. It won't satisfy several here and it has faults, but it's still pretty fine. Not to knock you or others who feel that Dolan is no Jacobs and that Shapiro is no Hart, but I'll never understand that sort of thinking. This team isn't that team and this city is no longer that city. Wishing they were isn't going to change a thing.

Yeah .... what he said

And another thing

To push the panic button in April is silly.

You really don't judge what kind of team you have until after 30-40 games.

Then if the team hasn't jelled or if the pen hasn't settled into their spots then you start to look for moves that you can make to better your team.

Starting pitching needs to help this team out now, Prior to last night Sabathia, Carmona and Byrd were 1-5 in 9 starts (thanks Orel) while last year they combined to win 53 Games

Tonight we start with Divisional games for the next week or so, Det, Minn and KC and we need to win series, that's what this team did last year and that's what their focus should be this year and probably is.

Bring on the tigers and hopefully Cabrera won't get a meatball to hit out like he got in the 8th last night to help win it for the kitties.

We have a big strapping pwower pitcher that won't throw inside. He got to get the balls to knock someone down or at least throw one inside to get them off the plate. Last game guys were hanging over the plate and took the inside corner away from him. And, someone got to work with Carmona and teach him how to control his cutter. If he can't throw it for a strike, then he's a sitting duck also.

This is exactly what I'm going to be watching for tonight.

Ocker talked about it on XM and it sure looks like the rest of the league is starting to take notice:

Ignoring rampant speculation that Cleveland Indians ace C.C. Sabathia's slow start is attributable to overwork last year, Akron Beacon Journal writer Sheldon Ocker has suggested Sabathia's woes may be attributable to an identity crisis.

Sabathia may be trying to rediscover whether he's a crafty lefty or a high-heat hurler, said Ocker, who covers the Indians on a daily basis.

"He used to come in with his 97-mph fastball and just try to blow it past people," Ocker told XM radio host Charlie Steiner. "Then he decided he wanted to mix in off-speed pitches and throw in the low 90s, which worked. Now he might be trying to remember, 'how did I do that?' "

Sabathia's ERA on the young season is 11.57, with an 0-2 record over 14 innings. Many have speculated that Sabathia is suffering from a tired arm after leading the league by throwing what was for him an unprecidented 242 innings last year.

But without him complaining about soreness or fatigue, the slow start remains a mystery, with predictions abounding that it is a matter of time before Sabathia rediscovers his form.

Nice to see that 93 MPH fastball up in the zone.

Jesus.

That was such a great first inning and it ends like that. 5 walks, 1 k. Back to back outings where he gives up 9 runs.

We're not going to do much without the big fella.

Et tu, Victor?

There's zero excuse for a catcher not knowing the number of outs.

This is pretty much the worst possible start to this season that anyone could have imagined.
