The Indians don't need another starter until Saturday I believe
when they will have to make another move

He can't do any worse than he was doing at Buffalo, can he? Hitting .208 with a .264 SLG% is pretty damn atrocious for a 26 year old in AAA, small sample size or not. The good news is we can treat him like a yo-yo all season long since his option was used in spring training.

I thought Westy's turn was Friday. I guess the off day would allow Byrd to pitch on Friday on his regular rest, right?

So who comes up? Laffey, Sowers, Smith?

To the small sample size or not thing, we're being outhit by the freaking Pirates and Giants this year.

Hell, we're 29th in batting average (.235) and 28th in slugging (.352)

Yes to Byrd moving to Friday's slot because of the off day yesterday. You are correct sir


Sowers pitched yesterday in a day Game for the Bisons and only went 4 because of a high pitch count. Pitched well

Smith Pitches on Sunday to mixed results

Laffey, Pitched well in 5 against Pawtucket on Saturday night going 5 innings in a combined shutout.

Sowers would be on his regular turn, Laffey seems to be the guy pitching a little better so that means that it will probably be Scott Elarton

Maybe they will send down Mastny and Francisco and bring up Laffey and Elarton

Now another question - would this be the worst time or the best time to give Marte a weeks worth of regular playing time? Good on Big Ben for coming back up to the big club, but I'd rather toss Blake into an outfield platoon and hand the 5 spot in your scorecard to Marte for a week plus just to see how he performs.

Let him know he's not going to sit no matter what happens.

It's probably my manlove for the guy talking, but I - still - *really* think he'll do well if he knows the job is his, even for a little while.

Of course, given the slow start, this may be worst possible time to try out that little experiment.

I think you answered your own question given the Indians slow start

The rumblings and rumors I have heard and read are of finding some team to take Michaels off of their hands not Delucci. Which means there wouldn't be a backup for Grady However that being said I haven't heard a thing about Marte, He seems to be deep deep deep undercover..

Because of the slo start it ain't happening right now IMHO. It just isn't the right time for him more importantly the team. With only 2 more games to go on this roadie and then the Yankees in for 4 games on a wraparound. I don't even think Marte is on their front burner right now. Getting the main guys turned arond is priority one right now

I do see a spot for him on the schedule but not for another month until the end of May with KC, Texas and Detroit on the road then Minn at home and Interleague play begins.

Be nice to spot start him until then.
