As expected, Lee makes the rotation while Sowers and Laffey head over to Buffalo. Barfield joins them and Elarton is moved to the minor league camp:

Lee, demoted to the minors for a brief time last season, pitched five scoreless innings against the New York Mets on Saturday.

That outing won the competition with fellow left-handers Jeremy Sowers and Aaron Laffey, who were sent to the minors.

"Cliff reported in outstanding shape and as camp went along, pitched better and better,'' general manager Mark Shapiro said. "The other two improved, too. They are definitely guys who can impact our rotation this year.''

Craig Breslow looks to replace Fultz:

Unless the Indians can work a trade, they will have to pay Fultz his entire $1.5 million contract for 2008.

On Sunday, the club acquired left-hander Craig Breslow on waivers from Boston, possibly to take Fultz's middle relief role.

"He gets the first shot,'' Shapiro said. "He's a guy that at this time a year ago we would never have had a chance to get him.''

The 27-year-old Breslow has struck out 383 in 357 2-3 innings in six minor league seasons. In 27 career games with San Diego and the Red Sox, he is 0-2 with a 2.86 ERA.

"He gets out lefties and right-handers, but has been very successful against left-handed hitters,'' Shapiro said. "When he has struggled at times, it has been with his command, not throwing strikes.''

And Andy Marte shines again today with the bat...not so much with the glove:

Marte, trying to make up for two errors at third base, hit a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth off Darrell Rasner. Breslow, a lefty picked up from Boston on waivers Sunday, struck out two in a perfect ninth to earn a save in his Indians debut.

"We've talked so long about Andy's bat and we've felt good about him defensively so that's what we have to remember," manager Eric Wedge said about what has been an otherwise ragged spring for Marte.

Outside of a game against Washington when he homered twice and drove in six runs, Marte is hitting only .204 and has six errors.

Wedge said his final roster decisions - whether to keep Marte, outfielder Ben Francisco or another player in a utility role, and filling the final bullpen spot with either Breslow or right-hander Tom Mastny may not come until the weekend.
