Hi gang.
Get out your wallet and call your bookie or Stan.

Best supporting actress : Cate Blanchette a guess.

Best supporting actor: Javier Bardem in NO COUNTRY.
Stone cold creepy.
(Casey Affleck in JESSE JAMES was damn good but the movie sucks.
Philip Seymour Hoffman was great in Charlie Wilson.)

Best Actress: Julie Christie. It's time.

Best actor: Daniel Day Lewis: He wins going away.
Clooney's only up for politics.

Best director: The Coen Brothers who are true film geniuses.
They get best adaped screenplay too. Possible sweep.....
Ghoulardi Jr. Paul Thomas Anderson has a shot too.

Best original screenplay: Diablo Cody. Juno. They gotta give Juno something but it's too quirky for a real Oscar. Plus he has the coolest pseudonym.

Best adapted screenplay: Coens again.

Best picture: Either NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN or THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
I'd give my nod to BLOOD but I think the Academy will load up the Coen Brothers trophy case for OLD MEN.

(note: I think NO COUNTRY will win; I just thought BLOOD was a tad better. But just a wee little tad.)

We'll find out tonight.
If you bet big and lose, remember gambling is illegal.
Don't come crying to me.
Thumbs up

So, Steve how did you score?

You got the actors and director and movie right, yet missed on the actresses. That seems to always be the way it is. The Actress categories always seem to be for some obscure, never seen performances.

My post op article.

Here ya go

The Oscars 2008

Yeah I know they’ll be over before this issue hits the streets.
So the predictions you’ll find in this piece were written Sunday morning. Hence the usually spot on Westside Steve fall a little short this season.
The good news is (unless you cheated and looked on line) that you probably didn’t take my picks to Vegas along with the deed to the vineyards.
I’ll be honest. I guessed at Cate Blanchette and Julie Christie and guessed wrong.
Tilda Swinton got best supporting for MICHAEL CLAYTON, a lackluster but left leaning (I had to use the alliteration) heroic lawyer V the evil corporation flick.
Marion Cotillard won Best actress for LA VIE EN ROSE.
I didn’t see it, so pardonez moi. The good news for women is that if you get a decent sized role you probably at least get a nomination. The bad news is they often go unnoticed at the box office.
The rest of the winners, I nailed.
Javier Bardem was stone cold creepy in NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN even though Philip Seymour Hoffman in CHARLIE WILSON’S WAR and Casey Afflek in THE ASSASINATION OF JESSE JAMES were both really good. Too bad ASSAINATION sucked as badly as it did.
Best actor by a country mile was Daniel Day Lewis in THERE WILL BE BLOOD.
I actually liked BLOOD a tiny bit better than NO COUNTRY BUT I still predicted the win for NO COUNTRY.
It was a big night for the brilliant Coen Brothers, Joel and Ethan. These guys are true Hollywood geniuses; or is it genii?
They also snapped up best director and best adapted screenplay from the Cormac McCarthy novel. Paul Thomas Anderson (Ghoulardi’s kid) gave them a run for the gold but the Coens’ stars were aligned that night.
Best original screenplay went to Diablo Cody for JUNO.
It was way too quirky for a real Oscar but what the heck; he really has the coolest pseudonym in the race.

No perfecta this year, sorry.

Steve, Diablo Cody is a woman. You keep saying "he" has the greatest pseudonym.
