A value you can't pass up and if not for teams taking runs at small school speed WR's Sweed should have been long gone. We drafted a big tackle in round 4 and picked up a few un-drafted FA's. We added Hartwig as well.

The question is which lineman to reach for at pick 23? and do you pass up on high value at 53 with Sweed? No is the answer. You don't pass up Sweed and you don't reach for a tackle or a guard in round 1 when a talent like Mendenhall is on the board.

Not too many people are going to argue that Mendenhall and Sweed werent great values and wont be good players but no matter what front you put on you know you're a bit worried about your o-line. If not, then you I wont bother arguing with you cause itd be pointless to butt heads with someone so ignorant to ignore reality. The Cleveland secondary makes me nervous, im not gonna lie about that...just know that it doesnt really make your line any better by saying theyre gonna be fine everyday on this board.

I think Hartwig makes a huge difference, Mahan was the glaring weakness last year especially coming off of a long Hartings tenure. Yes I would have loved to get a lineman in the first but there were only so many that I would have wanted in round 1. Albert, Clady, Williams and honestly thats it. Otah is a Max Starks clone that the Panthers paid a ton to acquire, Cherilus is a RT and even more of a reach at 15 to Detroit. I would have liked to get Sam Baker in the second but yet again a team reached and drafted him round 1. (ATL)

I'm sorry but I just don't think our offensive line is as bad as everyone wants to make it out to be and my rationale sits in the in house guys on the roster ready to step up. Kemo is a big man with one hell of a motor. Hartwig was hurt while in Carolina but was one of the reasons the Titans line was so good 4 years ago. The rest of the line specifically the young guys like Colon are yet another season in the system and could really begin to flourish.

Now as far as the 47 sacks are concerned some of them were because of line breakdowns that much is obvious but a lot of the breakdowns were coming up the gut over Mahan who is no longer our center. I'd say another 15-20 are because Big Ben was on the move trying to make it happen and it's those situations that make Big Ben, Big Ben. He very rarely throws the ball away, hell if ever and thats because he's always trying to make a play. He has another season under his belt and in that 47 sack season he made the pro-bowl and threw a franchise record 32 TD's and that was with the current crop of options he has....

SOoooooo the Steelers add 6'4 Limas Sweed in the 2nd and Mendenhall in the first. Now i'm not a rocket scientist or even a football expert but two additional prime time weapons keeps defenses honest and if they aren't going to play honest Mendenhall is out in the flat or Sweed is a big target down field. Additional options, GOOD options lead to less sacks and thats a FACT, if you don't like it thats fine but to say it's incorrect is flat out ignorant. The Steelers had one hell of a draft and thank god they didn't reach (See Texans and Duane Brown).

Dude, I had every Puke fan I know last year telling me how Mahan was a badass and there wouldn't be much of a dropoff without Hartings. You guys are so typical. As soon as one of your FA's leave he was never that good anyway and the replacements will be just as good if not better. I've been hearing this same old song and dance for awhile, and although some of it has been justified, times are a changing. Bottom line is, you have a different coach now and the onetime strength of every Pitt team is now a huge question mark.

Sweed could be another Quincy Morgan for all you know, and that's exactly how the Browns used to draft. They continually kept reaching for skill guys while starting UDFA's or old olinemen every year, basically using plugins. The one time they went line they took a smallish center in a division dominated by bigass NG's and NT's, and that was a season removed from taking another smallish center in the third round who pretty much sucked too. Their excuse for grabbing skill players was always because the guy was still there and they couldn't resist. Well, this is all looking very familiar with yinz. Face it, Bib Ben is a mother to sack and makes plays out his ass, but he went down almost 50 times last year with Faneca. Think about it dude, those are Couchesque numbers damn near. Do you really think a guy who is not dedicated to working out like Ben is going to keep getting up?

You are going through a regime change, plain and simple. Cowher would have never let the line get into the shape it is, that's a fact. What are you going to do with a couple of injuries on that line and Big Ben gets dinged? Screw Polly staying healthy, you're effed my man.

Right now, the Browns are pathetically better than you are offensively and can even sustain a few major injuries, which is something until last year we made a living doing while you guys were floating through injury free. Do you think Hartwig is going to handle our front foursome? Rogers or Smith will eat him alive just as Hampton used to do to Faine and whoever.

The Browns will knock the snot out of you guys both games next year barring some kind of weird shit, and this will continue for years. If I were you I would pray for DA to go DA on you and play giveaway, cause that's about the only chance you'll have. You're banty roostering days are done, oh proud one, so get ready to deal.

If yinz had a win for every time you said this, yinz might have made the playoffs more than a couple times since the modern era of the NFL.

So maybe try talking shit once yinz have accomplished something, otherwise yinz will continue to look like asswipes.

Well maybe not, yinz will still look like asswipes.

Do all the math you want, just like last year and don't be surprised when the Stains miss the playoffs once again and get swept by them Stillers.

Easy math - we are winners, yinz are losers.

Hey - somebody's gotta f*ck the prom queen.

Hartwig

3rd team in 4 years.

Hey Dawgshit - we won the division with Sean Mahan as our C - are you trying to tell me we are not better at the Center position with Hartwig vs. LY?

Okay...

bringing this back to a football discussion and out of the "who can pee the farthest" contest...

Steelers O line: Was in trouble last year. There were multiple reasons why. I did some statistical analysis on my homeboard and posted it... What I found was that there was a statistically significant increase in sacks the second half of the year. When you look at the running yards we gave up, I am sure the same is true there on defense. Thus, I concluded that our biggest problems was actually the work in training camp and the practices in pads throughout the year taking the toll on the body.

Mahan for instance, lost 20 pounds through the year. There is NO WAY you can lose that much weight and STILL be as strong as you were in the beginning of the year.

This year, he moves back to his original position, and we get a better center... sure, a journeyman, but still better than what we had, which increases our strength there. Smith is back from surgery, where his leg was actually numb during games. He is doing really well. Starks has lost weight which slowed him down. Sure, we lost faneca, but personally, I think he was coasting on reputation throughout the last year or two anyway. Many times last year I pointed out in my homeboard his mistakes--and people started seeing what I was saying.

So, I think out line becomes average this year. Then, the extra weapons gives us a couple of bumps north... which means we are just above average. With a new young hungry LB corp, young safeties who are getting healthy, and two new weapons that should not have fallen to us, I think we can be as good or better this year.

My guess... 9-6 wins this division... We all have BRUTAL schedules.

There are only 15 games this year??? When did that happen?

p.s. I still think your o-line is in trouble. Last year Mark Madden was calling out the Steeler line in preseason and he turned out being right. I don't see how it got any better by losing Faneca and adding Hartwig. I just don't.

Hartwig may be better than Mahan, but then again who isn't. Hartwig is on his 3rd team in 4 years. How good could this guy be?

Anyway. I heard a lot of Stooler fans stating that Ben caused a lot of those himself. All of a sudden a rookie RB and rookie WR are going to make Ben stop taking sacks?

Look, only one way to fix the OL - better players. All this rubbish about skill players reducing sacks is kool aid for the sheep.

People have found a weakness in Pittsburp and they are going to exploit it.

I remember the days of counting on Andruzzi and Coleman to come in and kick ass, paying Kevvy Shafe big money to play mediocre at LT, having 9 different centers in camp actually play......yep, I remember those days, and they're long gone.

It wouldn't be so bad for Pitt if the Browns didn't just jack up their dline across the board, but now they know what's coming and they are in denial.

We go 7 to 8 deep as solid starters in the league on the oline with one All Pro and another Pro Bowler. I also wouldn't be surprised to see Tucker make the Pro Bowl at RG.

Remember, the biggest discrepancy between these two teams since 99 has been the offensive and defensive lines, the trench warfare. Pitt has held court with that, but now it's all changed because of Savage.

Oh, and we've got better skill players and special teams, too.

"Hey Hartwig, meet my little friend Shaun Rogers."
