Especially early.

How he conducts camp is going to go a long way in how we get out of the gate. It is going to have to be a masterful blend of getting the work in but not beating guys up in camp, subjecting them to unnecessary injury, as well as having them ready to go.

The last few years we haven't started well, primarily IMO because guys were a bit relieved to be on the team. This year, things are a bit more set, so I hope we ease in to things, building for the opener rather than expel to much energy and emotion in camp.

My biggest fear with camps is some yahoo rookie running around like a wild man and hurting people in reckless ways. Vets know the score. When the whistle blows, they let up. Rooks in an effort to impress some coach tend to go on a little longer.

How we start is a big key to the season. While this team has talent galore, it is still a young team that feeds off emotion. We have to get that emotion flowing in a positive direction from the start.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Does anybody else think Guy's that much "funnier" because he's French, French-Canadian, or pseudo-French?

I think RAC will be okay this offseason. The biggest problem last year was the whole "coin flip" thing--which I still think didn't happen. This year, even though the fans may think there is one, there isn't a QB controversy going into training camp. RAC says so, Savage says so, the players say so, heck, even footlong boy says so. As long as Lord Voldemort does his job, the "controversy" will be a non-issue.

It's not really controversial: Anderson starts until Quinn takes over. And nobody wants to start Anderson if Quinn is better or vice-versa.

Translation: There's a controversy until one of the two guys is gone.

No doubt, and that is why one will.

All teams that are any good have one qb, then a few other guys nobody wants to see play.

Disagree very slightly on that one. All teams (good or otherwise) have one QB and at least one guy that at least half the fans look at and say, "I don't care if we just won the Super Bowl--have you seen [insert backup's name here]'s arm strength/quick release/RPMs/intensity/long, flowing hair?"

Romeo is a good coach in my eyes. But he better find someone to run through the replay before throwing that flag. They have not done well as a group in this regard. They should have a dude sitting in front of a TV practicing all offseason. Man did they suck at that.

Well there's a bit of exaggeration if I've ever seen it. Just because you can name off a handful of cases over decades that fit your contention doesn't make it legit. Please go team by team from the 2007 season and list that player to whom you refer for each team, since "all teams" have one.

kill kill kill hit hit hit...What's the fun of football if you can't knock the dogsnot out of someone. even if he's your teamate.. sometimes that's more fun. especially if the guy gets on your nerves... Guys get hurt. that's football .. as long as your playing clean. Crush'em... otherwise there is no point of even practicing.. you want a bunch of wimps that have not let it fly all camp??? Ask any coach.. you play like you practice... hit hit and hit some more.. Tom Coughlin has the toughest training camp in the nfl... look at his record.7 of 12 years in the playoffs for his nfl teams and reigning champions

Romeo is no dummy.. all that above aside.. he knows where it's at and how to handle camp.. I am more worried about the gametime calls.

A slight exaggeration, I'll cop to that. But that's it--the backup QB remains the most popular guy in the city.

I apologize for the long post ahead, but I've been asked to do so:

Note: This isn't about what teams had more than one QB start a game, this is which teams' fans--at least in my opinion--spent a fair amount of time thinking about/screaming for the backup QB

AFC East:
Buffalo Bills: JP Losman/Shep's boy--Check
Miami Dolphins: Trent Green/Cleo Lemon/The Stormin' Mormon--Check
New England Patriots: Okay, Brady's safe--No check
New York Jets: Chad Pennington/Kellen Clemens--Check

Division: 3 checks, 1 no check

AFC North:
Baltimore Ravens: Steve McNair/Kyle Boller/Troy Smith--Check
Cincinnati Bengals: Carson Palmer--No check
Cleveland Browns: Charlie Frye/Derek Anderson/Footlong Boy--Um...lemme see here...I'm gonna go with a check on that one
Pittsburgh Steelers: Ben Roethlisberger--No check

Division: Two checks, two no checks

AFC South:
Houston Texans: Matt Schaub/Sage Rosenfels--Check
Indianapolis Colts: Peyton Manning--No check
Jacksonville Jaguars: David Garrard--No check (even though he was the backup going into the preseason)
Tennessee Titans: Vince Young/Kerry Collins--You know what? I'm still going "no check" on this one

Division: One check, three no checks

AFC West:
Denver Broncos: Jay Cutler--No check
Kansas City Chiefs: Damon Huard/Brody Croyle (or is it Brody Croyle/Damon Huard?) In any event--Check
Oakland Raiders: Josh McCown/Daunte Culpepper/Jamarcus Russell--Check
San Diego Chargers: Phillip Rivers--No check

Division: Two checks, two no checks

NFC East:
Dallas Cowboys: Tony Romo--No check
New York Giants: Here's a tricky one. The NY fans and media were plenty ready to bail on Eli Manning, but the fact that his backup is a useless tub saved him--No check
Philadelphia Eagles: Donovan McNabb/Kevin Kolb--Check
Washington Redskins: Jason Campbell/Todd Collins--Check

Division: Two checks, two no checks

NFC North:

Chicago Bears: Rex Grossman/Kyle Orton/Steve Walsh/PT Willis/Kordell Stewart/Cade McNown/Red Grange--Check
Detroit Lions: Jon Kitna (saved from controversy by the preseason injury to whatsisname from Michigan State)--No check
Green Bay Packers: Brett Favre--No check
Minnesota Vikings: Travaris Jackson/Kelly Holcomb--Check

Division: Two checks, two no checks

NFC South:
Atlanta Falcons: Michael Vick/Byron Leftwich/Joey Harrington--Check
Carolina Panthers: Jake Delhomme/David Carr/Matt Moore/Vinny Testaverde--Check
New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees--No check
Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jeff Garcia/Luke McCown/Bruce Gradkowski--Again, I'm going to be charitable and go no check on this one, even though I think there should be a check

Division: Two checks, two no checks

NFC West:
Arizona Cardinals: Shep's boy/Kurt Warner--Check
San Francisco 49ers: Shep's boy/Trent Dilfer/Shaun Hill--Check
Seattle Seahawks: Matt Hasselback--No check
St. Louis Rams: Marc Bulger--No check, but that's only because everyone else on the roster sucks

Division: Two checks, two no checks

By my calculation, that's half of the league's teams which have--in the fans' minds, mind you a QB controversy or the beginnings of one. I think the number should be higher--based on last season, I would go as high as twenty, but I'm playing it conservatively and going with examples that I would go to the mat for.

I ask you, gentle friends, am I wrong?

Dennis

Half of the teams is just as close to "no teams" as it is to "all teams," but at least you owned up to the "slight" rolleyes exaggeration. But I agree with the idea you were trying to get across; you just went a little over the top at first.

There is a reason why they say the backup QB is the most popular guy in town.

I think the easiest position to critique while watching a game is the QB. We all think the QB should be making this play or that read, or to just throw the fcuking ball away instead of taking that sack that takes you out of field goal range, etc etc etc, and when the player doesn't respond to us, we want someone else in there. The feeling is natural; perhaps the guy on the bench can do all of those things better than this stiff we have in there now. Sometimes, in the case of Edwards over Losman, Warner over Leinart, and my grandmother over Chad Pennington, we're right. Sometimes we're not. There are really only a handfull of guys (Brady, Peyton...anyone else?) that you can be sure are better options than the guy on the bench. The grass always seems greener, but in most cases (Green/Lemon/Beck) it's just as brown.
