From another site (!)...

1. The Browns really have high hopes for Antwan Peek, who played with a torn miniscus for the last 15 games last season. He's totally healed and playing 10 pounds lighter. They're staying quiet, but the team hopes he'll be much more than adequate.

Also, the Browns really like Shantee Orr. He'll come in as a fresh pass rusher off the edge several times a game.

2. Most Browns coaches expect Leon Williams to beat out Andra Davis. They love his size and quickness, want to see him put it all together. Davis is here mostly as an insurance policy.

Caplan says nobody would be stunned if Beau Bell started the opener, though. They're that high on him.

3. The team believes that starting two big DEs (Rogers and Williams) will free up quick and active Shaun Smith to beat one-on-ones and wreak havoc. They love the potential of this line.

4. The team expects Ahtyba Rubin to make the active roster and contribute even though he was a sixth round pick. They think he can be another Shaun Smith, a guy who could rotate in at end, too.

5. Paul Hubbard has the edge on Travis Wilson because he'd be a top target for other teams if he's on the reserve list. Too big, too fast, and too young to sit there safely. He'll have to play special teams and learn while on the active roster. Puts Wilson on the bubble for sure.

6. Team hates the idea of trading Quinn after the season because he's cheap and wouldn't get his value on the market because he hasn't played. Caplan's assertion that we'd only get a third round pick sounds like a joke (Caplan is insanely anti-Quinn, even after acknowledging that the team loves him and he's cleaned up all of his mechanics problems). We'd have many suitors for Quinn and that would drive the price up to a late-ish round one.

That said, most people think Savage has made a gentleman's promise to Quinn and Condon.

Let me add that the team REALLY likes Austin Scott. He's talented and tough and might push for a roster spot. Caplan says he might be the only one... although I think the two corners from Missouri and UNLV might have a shot.

That is backed up by an article on the Browns page...

quote:
Both players excelled in the 3-4. In 2005, Peek managed 57 tackles and 6 sacks, but barely played the next year in the 4-3. Orr led the Texans in sacks with 7.5 in '05, also contributing 47 tackles.

Sounds like they were quite a tandem in Texas. Between them they had 13.5 sacks and 104 tackles in 2005. If we can get that kind of production from them...imagine the type of attention they will pull away from K.Wimbley...then Wimbley aught to be able to eclipse his 11 sack rookie year easily.

We had a total of 28 sacks last year. If we can get 23-25 from the OLB spot alone, we are well on our way to being an elite pass rushing team!!!

I think this really depends on the QB class that comes out of college next year. I think Tebow will likely come out, but I don't think he projects well as an NFL QB. Are there any other guys coming out of college that would be better than Quinn or Anderson? Their trade value really depends on that.

Freeman from Kansas state might come out ... if so he will be a real high first rounder! Maybe first overall...think Bledsoe with a little better avoidability!

For whatever it's worth, a buddy of mine who has followed Scott for about three years and lives in PA says he sucks. My buddy knows his stuff, but again, for whatever that's worth.

i would have to agree that he probably isnt that good. He didnt start for Penn State right? The only thing I have really seen on him is his High school highlights.(I wasnt impressed) If they cant even compile a highlight video of your college career you did nothing special.

If any of the UDFA RBs make the team I would have to say Temple not only fits our system but is a great RB.

That CB/S from UNLV would be the one I would put the most money on making the team.

I thought the kid from Bama (Stafford i think) was the hot QB for this year

I don't think Tebow comes out. He will want to get another year to show people he can throw the ball.....and he can. I think he will want a legit shot at QB before he switched over to a TE or some other position.

Close enough for me.

Heres a little insight on my Louisville Cards

Hunter Cantwell is better then Brohm. He isnt as smart as Brian but he is tough and has a NFL arm. With Kragthorpe running this team I dont think he will be able to showcase his talent but trust me he is a good one.

The only way I see any back making the roster outside of Lewis, Wright, harrison, Vickers and Ali is if there is an injury in camp. I see Temple being stashed on the Practice Squad and that's about it. I get the vibe that the Browns are really excited to use Harrison this year, and for what he lacks on ST's he makes up for by being in his third year and becoming way more adept at blitz pickups.

Temple was cut, Austin Scott was signed. That ship has sailed. Word is that Scott looked very, very good.

He was moved around position wise and had some legal troubles. So far, the team likes him a lot. Caplan says he might be the only guy who makes it all the way to camp.

My sense was that he was brought in as a tryout player and we never signed him.

Shep - moved around position-wise? I dont know where you got THAT information but that is totally untrue. He was a RB from Day One at PSU out of Parkland. Austin's problems began even before he got to PSU when he slept in on the day he was supposed to catch a ride to the Big 33 banquet and all. Like I said, he has the potential, just never reached it. Plus, he fumbled entirely too much at PSU. Dont get me wrong, I am pulling for the guy being from PSU and all, but hopefully he can undo the fumble history and make his way onboard!

It was one of our tryout players, Travis Thomas, who moved between RB and LB.

I thought this blurb about Scott was interesting:
quote:
[Scott's] best single-season rushing total is 436 yards, with only four career 100-yard games and four with 20 or more carries. With no NFL combine or all-star games appearances, Scott has little videotape to show prospective teams.

But then there's his performance at Penn State's Pro Day on March 18. Scott, weighing 223 pounds, did 27 repetitions in the 225-pound bench press and ran a 4.58 40-yard dash, numbers that appealed to scouts. In fact, times in two of his drill times (the 20-yard shuttle and three-cone) were better than any back who ran at the February NFL combine.

Though Scott did have an extra month to prepare -- he did combine training at TEST Sports Clubs with other NFL draft hopefuls -- he also faced the prospect of the Pro Day being his only chance. And at the time, the rape and sexual assault charges still were pending. "Was he venting some frustration? Perhaps," Lencheski said. "But our phones starting ringing after that day."

- Mark Wogenrich, Allentown Morning Call

The best 3-Cone at the Combine was Ray Rice's 6.65 second time, and the best Short Shuttle was Rashard Mendenhall's 4.18.

If Scott really bested those two times, that's pretty impressive...
