I want to talk about RB's....

Ok i understand that Jamal is the starter... hell he runs like an animal!

But... if he whent down week one who would you like as the number 2 ???

I really get excited everytime Harrison Touches the ball....

But i am really bored with the vanilla running style of Wright.

I really cant understand why Write seems to be the Coaches Favorite!!!!

Am i Alone on this?

Question:
Who would you start if Jamal goes Down???

Choices:
Big Head Jason Wright
Jerome Harrison

Wright gets the job usually because Harrison can be an idiot without the ball in his hands. Like giving up on a lateral and having the other team recover it because he just assumed it was a forward pass.

Jerome Harrison can be electric with the ball...but he is NOT an every down player. He is a poor blocker and his skill is avoiding contact, where Wright has the power to go straight ahead and off guard.

Last year Wright went for 277yds on 60 carries (4.6 ave)(long of 18) and also pulled in 24 receptions for another 233 yards (9.7 ave). Those are not bad numbers...and with the OL having another year together I would imagine he can continue to put up those types of numbers.

Harrison went for 142yds on 23 carries (6.2)(long of 17) and only had 2 receptions (9.5). So, overall his numbers were not that much more explosive than Wrights, and with increased carries those numbers would probably come down to Wrights area.

I think that Wright is a legit option as the backup, and we still have a change of pace back with Harrison. Where if we start Harrison we no longer have the change of back option.

Not only are those "not bad numbers", they are pretty darn good numbers. I don't mind Wright at all. Not flashy, but I'm confident he can get the job done if pressed into action, esp. behind this line.

If he is our change of pace back....... why do we give Wright the extra 5-10 carries that are left over and not our change of pace back... that should have been my point i guess....

I guess wright is a change of pace back.... he changes Jamals pace by taking it down a notch or 5!

I dissagree... what would happen if he were allowed to get in a groove... he has never been handed the ball more than 2 or 3 times in a row...
Hell, Rarely ever does jamal even come in and gets 20 yards with his first 2 or 3 carrys

Okay, lets have a little history lesson, and we dont have to go to far down memory lane. where was Priest Holmes before he made it Big with the Chiefs? and Who was part of the staff that let him get away?

Well lets look at the 1998 Rat Birds? and wasn't PS there then as one of the head Talent Scouts!

My vote on this is for Harrison, he looks alot like Priest Holmes! and if he gets away we will regret it!

I'm not really comfortable with Wright and Harrison. I just don't see Wright as an everydown back if he were thrown into a starting position. Harrison has yet to prove himself. This is his chance to do so...or he'll be moving on.

If it were up to me, I'd be shopping for an insurance policy in case Jamal gets hurt.

As much as we like to say that we have a QB friendly cockpit...I tend to think we are heading towards (if not there this year) a RB friendly system, much like Denver...where you put in a RB and he goes for 1200+. The OL is good enough, and the WR/TE positions strong enough, that the RB is going to get holes to run through and all it takes is decisiveness and a little burst.

With that said, I see no reason why this year we wouldn't be fine with what we have...especially considering our FB's in Vickers and Ali. Next year we need to go out and get somebody to share the load...but this year I think we will be just fine with the 3 we have.

Ok So when the hell will we get to see harrison in that role!!!!!

I place alot more hope in him than Wright... we have seem what you get with Wright... an undersized retard with an oversized head who cant make any moves or cutts... everything he can do goes right in the hole... if its open good ... if not he sucks!!! With this line anyone should be able to fall forward for 4 yards....
like i said its vanilla!!! His hips are bad and when has he ever made anyone miss.... or roll over someone... NEVER

I thinks he just keeps the coaches lounge full of krispy kreemes!

On the other hand i have seen Jerome Harrison put on the nessasary weight to carry a load... i have seen him Take a defender clean out of his shoes....

Well I'd like to think he's actually going to be a part of the gameplan this season.

If he isn't....you've got to figure (for whatever reason) he isn't in RAC's or Savage's plans.

Harrison all the way. Wright is a plowhorse with no upside.. he is about as mediocre as a backup can be. He adequate at best.. I do think Harrison is more of a 3rd down back, than an every down guy. He does bring more to the table than wright though. Harrison can light it up with a little seam.

I would however, like to see an overall upgrade at the #2 spot... I want to see who gets cut loose late.. teams like the Raiders are stacked... and cannot keep all these backs. Justin Fargas, Darren McFadden, Michael Bush, and Lamont Jordan..The combined salaries are seemingly too high for them to keep all 4 plus any fullbacks they will keep. I can see jordan as the odd man out..he is much much better than wright as a backup... Michael bush was a beast in college and is fully healed now.. I want to watch him in preseason and see where he ends up.. But most likely jordan is the guy getting the axe..

If Lewis were injured--I'd like to see Harrison on 1st and 2nd down with Wright on 3rd and obvious passing situations.

They should be used like Byner and Mack, sharing time depending on the circumstances at hand.

Wright is a downhill runner, and a better blocker by far. Harrison is shifty and quick, but is a horrible blocker.

Oh man....if we could get that kind of play from those two guys, we'd be a severely badass offensive juggernaut this season.

I miss watching those two guys reeking havoc on opposing defenses.

With that kind of production from the running game mixed with our already stellar passing game...that offense would surpass those great Lindy Infante offense's of yesteryear.

Is it September yet?

I'm pretty sure Temple was cut during OTAs.

Here is the latest from Browns.com

quote:
Position preview: Running back
Zac Jackson, Staff Writer
07.18.2008
A pre-camp glance at the Browns' running backs...

OVERVIEW: Last season, those expecting to see an old Jamal Lewis instead saw the Jamal Lewis of old.

Lewis ran with power and authority, posting two big games early in the season and settling into a closer's role later as the Browns ground out three wins in December. He had five 100-plus yard games on his way to a 1,304 yard season.

It was a typical Lewis performance that Browns fans were well aware of from being on the wrong side. And if he can deliver a repeat performance, the Browns' goals will likely be within their sights in December.

He signed a new three-year contract in the offseason and enters 2008 needing 895 yards to go over 10,000 for his career. He was energized by last season's fresh start with the Browns and is energized this season by a chance to return to the playoffs.

Lewis didn't do it alone, though, and his supporting cast is back for this season as well. Lawrence Vickers blossomed into one of the league's best young fullbacks, delivering crunching lead blocks for Lewis and catching passes out of the backfield.

Jason Wright turned in another steady season, spelling Lewis at times, playing on third down and on special teams and moving the chains when asked to do so. Jerome Harrison enters his third professional season believing he's ready for a bigger role; he certainly has the type of shake that could complement Lewis' power game.

Health, as always, will be key. Lewis essentially missed two games last season after suffering an injury early in the Patriots' game. Wright and Harrison filled in admirably, combining for 170 yards of total offense as the Browns still scored 41 points without him against the Dolphins.

KEY BATTLES: Wright and Harrison are similar in stature, though each brings different strengths to the backfield. Having those two compete for carries behind Lewis can only be a good thing for the Browns' offense, and Harrison heard Romeo Crennel loud and clear in the spring when the head coach challenged him to become a more complete back and prepare himself to play special teams.

The more linebackers and safeties backup fullback Charles Ali can smash this preseason the better, too, as the Browns would love to see the second-year man add some polish and confidence to his game. Vickers' versatility gives the Browns some potential options - options they'll be more comfortable exploring if Ali is ready for big-game situations.

ROOKIE SPOTLIGHT: The Browns brought in two undrafted rookie running backs, Travis Thomas and Austin Scott.

Thomas (5-foot-11, 215) and Scott (5-foot-11, 225) are both bigger backs with some potential. Thomas played linebacker for three years at Notre Dame and is expected to stand out on special teams in camp; Scott showed flashes of greatness at Penn State and was impressive enough in a tryout in early May to earn a contract and at least a shot of sticking in the NFL.

Ali is no longer a rookie, but he made a huge jump from Arkansas Pine-Bluff to the Browns last season and is still improving. An intriguing player to watch is undrafted rookie Kolomona Kapanui, a 6-foot-3, 270-pounder who's listed as a tight end but also played some fullback during the spring.

REASONS FOR OPTIMISM: The offensive line should return intact and again play at a high level, opening running lanes and allowing Lewis to get a full head of steam -- and that's bad news for opposing safeties. The presence of all the weapons the Browns have in the passing game prevents defenses from stuffing the box with eight-man fronts as well. And with Vickers still developing as a lead blocker, there are plenty of reasons for optimism.

REASONS FOR CONCERN: Like it would at a lot of other positions, an injury to a marquee player would be tough to overcome. But if the Browns' backs stay healthy they should be very productive again.

LAST WORD: If Lewis gets in the neighborhood of 300 carries, his track record indicates he'll go over 10,000 yards for his career and give the Browns a chance to win their share of games. Keeping him fresh will be key as his real value might come later in the season when the weather turns and the stakes are their highest.

I never heard of this Somoan guy...6'3" 270....OUCH!!! That guy is a TRUCK! I would LOVE to see him in on 3rd and short and GL!!!
