Everyone would agree on paper our D line looks really good but until they take the field and prove it ,it's all speculation, but I have to believe that having one of the best O lines in the league is going to really whip the D into shape quick and the results on the field should be stellar.

I believe that our D is going to be kick ass this year and the credit will go to our O line toughening them up.

I like the optimism.

But that doesn't make any sense at all.

It's like saying BQ will be good because he's from Ohio so he'll try harder.

Oh wait, you believe that too don't you?

Lum, remove DA's cock from your mouth before you speak.

Incase you are being coy, what he's saying is that our new DL practicing against our All-Galaxy OL will make them better.

It will either make the DL better or the OL worse, preferably both better.

No dumass, it is like saying the DL will have to face one of (if not the) best OL's in the league every day in camp and it will force them to play at a higher level or get embarrassed in practice day in and day out.

You don't get better facing somebody you can tromp all over, you get better by facing somebody who pushes you to your best...and our OL will be pushing the DL every snap in preseason.

Dans...I couldn't agree more!!!

Didn't the O-line practice against the D-line last year? Or is this "O-line vs D-line" some new technology that RAC has discovered in 2008?

It's called competition Lum. The camp battle with Wimbley and Thomas last year was classic.

Well the D should be improved up front with the new additions. See it is kind of like DA going against the 30th ranked D. He looked good in practice, but when the games started he laid some eggs. We're hoping he improves as our D improves.

Yes that is why they will be better. Danamal was daydreaming and came up with some other cockamamie reason.

You can be such a total a$$. This is not a made up scenario. It is well known that going against TOP competition pushes you to work harder and play better than playing against low end competition. It readies you to face OTHER top talent.

If all you faced is crap...the first time you face top talent it will take time to adjust (and you may not be able to). It takes top talent to really test you...and it takes top talent to push you to improve.

Case in point...you. You obviously have never faced top talent in conversation...and therefore you get blown out (read: OWNED) all the time on this board (lots of top talent).

I love all the hype on Shaun Rogers, and I'll enjoy it as long as I can. People are coming out of the woodwork to say they've always believed that a change of scenery would take him to the next level, which is scary. He's the kind of interior defender who can dominate a game like few others if he's in high gear... and everyone says he looks to have found that gear.

I can't remember the last defensive lineman the Browns had who could dominate a game, but I do know how key an unblockable NT can be to the 3-4. It just changes everything. And Shaun Smith was edging toward "very good" by the end of last season, so we even have a rotation ready in the middle.

Robaire Smith is a very good 3-4 DE. Last year proved it. And Corey Williams was born to play the position. If Ahtyba Rubin is half the steal we keep hearing he is, it really looks like our DL can be this year's version of the OL, making a quantum leap.

Then you add in a healthy Antwan Peek, Beau Bell, and Shantee Orr, who really psyched up the coaches throughout the spring, and it looks like the Front Seven is going to be really formidable.

Man, let's go. I think this is gonna be fun.

yes, and when they were practicing the most (training camp) our O-Line still sucked. It wasn't until week 2/3 that our line gelled.

You're an idiot.

Actually, I'm hoping that our D-line will help improve a possible weak link in our O-line.

Early in the FA period, the guy who covers the Steelers for AOL's FanHouse watched some film of Rex Hadnot. Here's part of his summary of what he saw:
quote:
Hadnot also has several weaknesses. His hands are awful, maybe worse than Kendall Simmons, who's doesn't remind anyone of a Stickum-covered Lester Hayes. Lined up against Domato Peko in the Bengals game, Hadnot was rarely able to lock up Peko, as the Bengals nose guard normally was able to get free after Hadnot's initial punch. Because of that Hadnot had trouble keeping Peko contained in pass blocking. If you can keep your hands on your man, you can control him, without that grip, it's nearly impossible to keep a lineman from eventually slipping inside or outside for pressure. Hadnot also has trouble picking out his proper assignment when teams stunted and ran twists in front of him. Too often he'd fixate on the man lined up over him, following him when another man was looping around to run free through his gap. Although in the 2 1/2 games I watched he didn't give up a sack on stunts, he did give up several pressures.

The one sack I saw Hadnot give up came because of his hands problem. Ty Warren was able to quickly slap away Hadnot's grip, get an arm over on Hadnot's outside shoulder and fly by for a sack. Hadnot isn't particularly quick off the snap, which led to a couple of ugly busted plays in the running game against the Bengals.
In practice, Hadnot should be facing off against Corey Williams, a very quick, athletic d-lineman.

Facing off against Williams every day should help Hadnot get better at handling talented interior rushers. And if he doesn't improve, the coaching staff will be able to move McKinney (or Ryan Tucker later) into the RG spot.

So this thread makes a very good point; the DL-OL competition should be one of the most interesting things to watch in camp.

For an interior lineman, MDP had one of the quickest first two steps I've ever seen. He really had freaky quick feet for a big man.

Golic was the consumate wrestler/space eater. Rarely put any backfield pressure, but was also rarely moved off the line of scrimmage.

Lum, of all of your "arguments", this one is by far the lamest. Why pander to the tards who love BQ just b/c he's from Ohio? We both know they are as irrational as, say, some dude who loves Derek cuz he's from Oregon...

MDP was a great lineman who also played with a bad knee. Imagine how lethal he would have been totally healthy and utilized correctly?
