LeBron James showed up in New York on Monday, part of a USA Basketball media function, and continued to bat his eyes at the city in the run up to his potential free agency in 2010.

When asked to name his favorite city he said: “New York.”

Favorite borough?

“Brooklyn,” James said. “Brooklyn is definitely a great place here in New York City, and some of my best friends are from Brooklyn, so I stick up for them.”

Brooklyn is where the New Jersey Nets are expected to move to in 2010 (at least if community groups don’t blow it). The franchise is owned, in part, by James’ friend Jay-Z, and should be stock full of young, complementary talent and a King’s ransom in salary cap room.

James knows all of this. His answers weren’t by accident or without meaning, no more than was wearing a New York baseball cap from an Indians-Yankees playoff game last fall just an expression of pinstriped-fandom.

This was just the latest, albeit most obvious, shot across the Cavaliers’ bow. James didn’t list Cleveland as one of his five favorite cities, although hometown Akron came in fifth behind Washington, Dallas and Los Angeles.

We all know this would happen, that once LeBron's contract is up he would move onto another city for more money, but he really should think twice before stating as much before his contract is up. Does he think that he is going to endear himself to the Cavs fans with sh*t like this????

We should trade his ass now, because he WILL be gone after his contract expires, and I don't see any chance of a Cavs championship in the next 2 years. First he wears a frickin Yankee hat to a Tribe game, and now this crap coming from his mouth.......Bye Bye LeBron, here's hoping you are miserable and your team sucks when you go to your favorite city.

He had a big interview where he says he still loves Cleveland and would happily finish his career there if they're as committed to winning as he is.

If he goes, he goes. Every team who has ever won an NBA championship in history did it without Lebron James. So there you go.

I am glad LBJ is a cav... for now. That being said he is a front running asshole. We the fans of ohio are paying him to be a cav and he shows up at a cleveland game with a Yankees hat!!!

He has never lived in Brooklyn, he will never be from NY period. I dont think that shows respect for the fan base you are playing for that normally hates NY.

If he goes I wish him all of the injuries and shortened career he deserves. I am not normally this spiteful but for some kid who has already made over 100 million its not about the money anymore but his idea of what is important to him.

Shepster, I'm with you on this one. Nothing us fans can do about it. The Yankees cap should be a big hint. I hope I'm wrong about it.

If LeBron wants to follow the bright lights to his pally JZ's domain, don't let the door hit you in the ass, but don't torture the C-town fans in the meantime. Can't be about money- the guy's already as rich as Midas- can't be about notoriety either- see Chris Paul, New Orleans Hornets.

He's a Yankees fan. No big deal. Shit, Tom Brady wears a Yankees hat walking around Boston.

I think he's the type of guy that would LOVE to stay with one team his whole career and have his legacy be with one team. And as long as the Cavs keep winning, I think he will. I don't think he wants to committ to anything, and maybe his ego likes all the rumors, but I think he'll come back.
