The Cavs are consistently listed as the teams going after Monta Ellis and Corey Maggette in a sign and trade. Ellis seems the most possible because it's mostly the Cavs and Heat. Everybody seems in it for Maggette, and he might end up a Celtic or Spur.

For his career, Ellis has shot 28.5% from 3-point range, eerily similar to Larry Hughes' 29.8%.

Ellis is definitely a talented offensive player, but I'd prefer we bring in someone who can knock em down (if anyone's available...).

As a cheap alternative, Mickael Pietrus would make a lot of sense. He's a good defender with good 3-point range - I think it was Chad Ford who said Pietrus could play a Bruce Bowen-type role for a contender.

Someone here has been pointing out that the Cavs have shooters, including Boobie, but lack a penetrator who can create points and free up LBJ.

True? Hell, I don't know. But I became a huge fan of Ellis watching him last year. He's probably the fastest player in the NBA now. I used to say it was AI and then Tony Parker.

I don't know how brilliant a Hughes-Monta comparison is. Ellis shot 55% from the field last year and 49% for his career. Hughes is a career 40% shooter.

Ellis is one of the best young players in the league. Came straight out of high school and has improved every year. He shot 23% from 3 last year but he only attempted 52 (in Hughes' only full season in CLE, he took 222). Obviously, the man knows what a smart shot is.

He would be an incredible addition to the team, but I can't see the Warriors giving him up for what we can offer. Maggete's tough too, like Shep said there's just too much interest in him. Our expiring deals will look a lot more attractive at the deadline than they do in the offseason, so I think we might be going into the season with our current team.

Kid is scary fast and leaps out of the gym. I love watching him. Kind of like Chris Paul. Just a blast to watch.

Good point. Ellis does seem to be improving as a shooter year-by-year, though his 3-point percentage has actually declined.

I haven't seen enough of Ellis to know whether it's good shot selection or a recognition of his own limitations, though I'm glad he's not lobbing bomb after bomb at a 23% success rate.

I agree about us being not likely to make any significant additions. Maybe add Pietrus & make a deadline deal for a bigger name if he doesn't make a difference.

Corey Maggette agrees to sign with the Warriors, Mickael Pietrus to sign with the Magic.
