do you have any idea what people have gone through for you to have the ****ing freedom to say something like that? You sit at your computer in your comfy ****ing house on your nice street never having to hear gunfire or mortors and you can sit there and even think that? Even the most liberal **** would never say something like that. You have absolutly no common sense about anything.

Inspecta - I was talking about Dawg the Bounty. Who I had respect for before that. That comment really surprised me.
I'm normally quiet and reserved on this, and stay out of the shit throwing. But don't ever EVER insult the people who will die for your freedom. I can't fathom how anyone could even think like that. |

You didn't get a little queasy hearing that tripe, too? He fired back with equal but opposite bullshit. The "how dare you" response is way too precious. Dial it down already. Righteous indignation is best shared in small doses. You want to be respected? Show respect. Deserve respect. Beating your chest gets you laughed at. |

Yeah shep, you're right. How dare someone say "how dare you" to someone who belittles all of the people who have put their lives on the line (and the many who have actually given their lives) for you to enjoy the opportunity to live the life you do. You're right - that's absolutely ludicrous for someone to say "how dare you" to someone who insults those people. We're not talking about people being upset because the guy didn't go out and build a monument to show his gratitude... the prick actually took the time to type out a response on a football msg board to insult those people. This isn't political shep, so drop the party blinders and recognize what it actually was that set several people off. |

For what it's worth - I appreciate ALL those that put their lives in harm's way to preserve or even GET us our freedom. Special thanks goes out to everyone of the males and females that served our country. You're the true heros. That said, I don't FEEL like we're PROTECTING our freedom over in Iraq today so YOUNG kids and even parents are LOSING their lives for 1 man's agenda. There's no way you can prove to me that we're a STRONGER country for being over in the Middleeast and recruiting more enemies than we've ever had. What's the goal? Time line? Progress? You're hearing zero on all that, which pretty much tells the story. There's an old saying I heard on a movie "We're NOT against the soldiers - we're against the war." The idea of FREEDOM is how we got our country and we didn't have to leapfrog oceans to fight the enemy. They were right here in bright red coats or bullseyes as our founding fathers saw them. THAT is fighting for freedom. Pat Tillman thought he had the right idea too and so did his family at FIRST. Our Country never even gave his family the truth. There's right and there's wrong. That was wrong and that family lost quite a bit of their patriotism over it all. Wanna bet if Bush's alcoholic brats had to reside in Iraq for as long as the war was going on it would already be over? When people have a beef about the war today - chances are they KNOW someone that was injured or killed. Iraq didn't TRAIN the terrorists to fly here - Americans did because the current vision or central intelligence at the time wasn't what it SHOULD be. We talk of preserving freedom and yet we excuse our LACK of border controls at every chance to pretend Iraq visions are so much more important. Lets be honest Tom, the terrorists were in the USA training when Clinton was President. This act was planned years in advance. That being said, we were and I still think we are vulnerable to more terrorist attacks. I don't think its a question of if, but of when it will happen.

Dawg's summation about what drives people to join the military is wrong and a bit silly, but let's not go equally wrong the other way. The military is not beyond reproach simply because they put their lives on the line. It may demand our respect, and most Americans give them that respect, but the chest-thumping allegiance to all things military is even more problematic.
And like Tom said, they're not fighting for our freedom in Iraq. They may be fighting for other people's freedom, as well as fighting for a bad policy decision, followed by lots of other bad policy decisions. But I don't think anyone truly believes that if we didn't invade Iraq somehow the US mainland would be under threat from people who want to steal our freedoms. Our freedoms are more under threat from people within this country than a bunch of guys in caves, and the sooner the jingoistic right realizes how much we've blown this enemy out of proportion the better off we'll all be. I don't know when the most powerful nation, both economically and militarily, that the world has ever know got to be so goddamn insecure. |

For instance, Mitt Romney has an ad where he says of the Muslim radicals, "...their goal is to unite the world under a single Jihadist caliphate" and to "collapse freedom-loving nations like us." Well, that may be their goal, but does anyone in their right mind actually think they could pull it off? Should we be talking of these backward clowns as if they're equal adversaries of the United States? And my goal is to unite Ashley Judd and Bridget Moynihan in a single threesome. The Republican base should really get a hold of themselves. Then maybe they'd realize that there are better ways to spend a trillion dollars of taxpayer money. |
