I agree 100%, Dennis. But the thing about Russert wanting Todd to succeed him could be credible; I've heard that the two of them were pretty close.

Brokaw seems like a good Bridge to Todd, who does need to elevate his profile a bit.

Plus, Todd seems to be really distraught about Russert's passing, so putting him in Russert's seat right now would have been really hard on him.

Scroll to the 3:00 point in this clip; Todd seems a little "off" - like he's too depressed to be on air right now.

I'm not sure if he was depressed, or just not up yet, or blown away by the general crappiness of the Moveon commercial. Man, that commercial sucked. Fearmongering twenty years into the future? Whose side are they on in the election? Thankfully that's not the best argument Obama (and his more eloquent supporters) can make.
