Numbers Retired and hangs in the rafters |
It started on Right Wing blogs, but it ended up coming out of Rush Limbaugh's mouth: Michelle Obama used the word "whitey" when speaking at Trinity Church!
Oops. Turns out she's never even SPOKEN at the pulpit. Amazing how eager they are to scare the white folk... of MICHELLE OBAMA??? Have you even seen her? Does she seem like someone who is segregated from white people? Educated in inner city schools and a small black college? Someone who fears and loathes anyone who isn't black? Lord. Unbelievable. There are no depths too low, I guess. Obama's camp has opened a website, "fightthesmears.com," to shoot down the nonsense. You'd think Obama and his wife were gang members, not Ivy League "elitists." Which one is it? |

Maybe she didn't speak at the PULPIT, DIMWIT.
Maybe she said it at a Church function. Maybe she said it at a Sunday School class - early training for pre-schoolers... Maybe she said it at a Socialist Liberal Under Tolstoy (S.L.U.T.) Maybe she said it on her way out the door after a political hate whitey speech ? Maybe she said it an an outdoor ice cream social. Maybe she said it at her Arrogant Socialist Socialites (A.S.S.) meeting Maybe she said it while sitting in the congregation during a sermon. She is an UnAmerican Black Commie Socialist Anti-whitey bee-ach. Anything bad about the Obumblas is a smear. If Obumbla punches you in the nose for no good reason, and you say he's prone to violence, you only said it because you hate blacks. Upside down, topsy turvey, bass ackwards socialist existence. McCain will win. |

Yikes. The wheels are coming off.
It's going to be okay, Cal. Breathe. |

There is a touch of Lee J. Cobb at the end of Twelve Angry Men in the post, isn't there? Dennis Next, he'll be saying that McCain is throwing some really tight spirals to Travis Wilson.--Sorry, sorry, a better person wouldn't have thrown it in, but I've never claimed to be a good person. |

True. All's fair. |

And, for the record, I'm not a big fan of Michelle Obama. She kind of reminds me of John Kerry's wife, who I was also not a fan of. Nevertheless, until the alleged tape of the comments surfaces--and there is supposed to be a tape floating around out there in the ether--I'm calling BS. We're living in the age of Drudge, YouTube, and gotcha journalism; every day without a tape makes it seem more like fiction.

But while Drudge is a muckraker his rise to fame has been from true shit the left wing press refuses to print. Anyway I wouldn't be hugely surprised if it were true. And in fairness to her too often a persons whole life is judged by an errant remark. WSS |

That's not what Drudge does, Steve. He's a right-wing clearinghouse. He only links to other people's stories - i.e. something someone else has printed. And the headlines he writes are often intentionally misleading - once you read the story, often the point of the story is different from what he suggested with his headline. And that's the idea - most people won't read the story, only his headline.
Like: "Global warming scientist repents, converts" Then the story is about how he converted to Christianity. The Huffington Post now does this from the left. Is there some story you think he discovered that the "left-wing press" wouldn't have run? Lewinsky? Are you kidding? Also, I love how there's no evidence of such a tape, but Cal and Steve are going to go ahead and assume she made a comment like that already. "Maybe she said it at a Church function." "I wouldn't be hugely surprised if it were true." You guys don't get upset at the smear. you don't say, "That's unfair. If you're going to accuse someone of this, you better have the evidence." You simply carry on if it were true! |

The alleged tape shows her speaking at the pulpit and using the word "whitey," which would make her an idiot.
The Obama camp says no such tape can exist... because she never spoke at the pulpit and would never say such a dumbass slander. No tape showed up. Whiff. And Obama's camp would look stupid if they said she never spoke when she did. And I think they're about as far from stupid as a human could get. Consider that all of these people are in the smear business... isn't it pretty obviously a racist smear? Seems pretty freaking obvious to me. Yet Steve and Cal are subtly given it credit. Dance, puppets... |

People jump the gun on all sorts of stuff. The real problem is when you don't admit you were wrong.
Drudge ran the Kerry affair story for a week before the 2004 election, remember? That wasn't true either. Dan Rather lost his job over the Bush-National Guard story. |

In fairness, though, smart people do stupid things out of desperation, like pumping up the volume on the vehement denials when they think that the definitive proof isn't going to show up. Rememeber "I did not have sexual relations with that woman," followed by the (admittedly) pretty hilarious double-take when he was asked about the cigar? Dennis |

True... but the fact that the Obama camp seems VERY confident that there is no evidence speaks louder than words.
And they seem pretty damn confidant. Holy crap. We're talking about an Ivy League educated married mom like she's a racist Black Panther... because she's black. I don't know why our nation's staggering ignorance still amazes me. I really don't. |

The right is certainly anti-Michelle in a big way. And all I can glean from them is that they think she's a horrible bitch because of the comment about being proud of her country for the first time in her adult life.
Is there something else I missed, because I'm not sure that comment warrants all the venom. |

The Right is really tough on liberal women, whether actual politicians or wives of politicians. REALLY rough.

The Left is smearing McCain's wife? Calling her racist/sexist names?
Dude, Preach... it doesn't go both ways. The Right practically owns slander on Fox News, Rush, "news" sites, blogs, etc. It just isn't the liberal way. You gotta get over that. If you don't like tasteless slander, you're no real Republican. |

Come on, Preach. There really isn't a liberal equivalent here.
As far as I can tell, Democrats have asked Cindy McCain to release her tax returns. |

I think Preach is a decent guy trying to come to grips with being a Republican. His tack is "everybody's doing it," but they really aren't.
Preach, you either have to become a total douchebag or switch. |
