Probably true. However, when the most charitable estimate is that it will lower oil prices by two cents twenty-five years from now, isn't that evidence that the polls show that people simply don't understand the issue? Let's see...put money into developing alternative fuels, or waste time trying to pump for oil so that Exxon will spend a nickle less on a barrel a quarter-century from now. That's a no-brainer; they're sure to gas prices when the price of crude sinks so low. Dennis |

Lets see... put your money in wasteful boondoggles and ineffective government spending on shit that some senators state has an interest in? While steadfastly opposing the one we know works well? Doesn't seem like a winner either does it? But hey if you thin an oil rig in ANWR is uglier than a row of windmills on the beach as Nags Head....... WSS |

I couldn't care less about the aestetics of the thing; I'm a utilitarian. As to the first part, you're saying that alternative fuels are wasteful, ineffective frauds? So what's your theory when the oil runs out. Are we screwed? Will we have to go back to literal horsepower once oil either runs out or becomes so scarce that prices skyrocket? And how will two cents twenty-five years from now save us from the catastrophe? Dennis |

So, watch that if hell freezes over, that Obaba gets elected, and after the taxes on oil companies skyrockets the fuel prices, and he decides to drill after all, the libs on this forum will
defend Obama's decision to drill for oil as "brilliant". That would be entertaining, albeit intellectually painful.. |

Cal, seriously, if something is "intellectually painful," I think you're safe.

I'm saying there are some now and will be more as beaurcrats have more and more tax money to throw at any asswipe with a perpetual motion plan. But nukes work now. Right? And if you don't care about pristine what's the beef? Or just buying into the old "I Hate The Oil Company" rant? >> So what's your theory when the oil runs out. << It will. But we're into that "Oh my God we only have a week!!!" frenzy. The private sector will figure out both what works and what's profitable. It will take a while, but they're on it. The guy that makes the 200 mpg full sized ride will be rich as Croesus. Same as it was 20 years ago. It just isn't available yet. We didn't just shoot all the horses in one week to force everyone to buy automobiles. WSS WSS[/b] |

I've said several times that I favor nuclear power. What does that have to do with cars? And what do oil companies have to do with nuclear power?
I agree with a lot of that--the private sector will need to drive the move to alternative fuel cars, as it should. Nevertheless, to use your analogy, when cars really took off, the government built roads and passed laws to reflect the new transportation reality, rather than wasting time trying to develop a superhorse just in case the car didn't work out. But that's what the gov is doing now. The roads and gas stations followed to popularity of cars not vice versa. As will fuel cell and battery ststions that co exist and then replace gas stations. Look at the available high mpg cars. Not much better than 4 bangers and the ones that are look like the mini cooper. I'm just thinking the new emerging tech is going to be, well, new. Not just a 45 mpg gas car as big as a trash can. Which is, IMO, the "superhorse." WSS WSS[/b] |
