I see we are getting no where. You guys would make great politicians.
Thanks to all who had a hand in helping kill this place, you should be proud. The next time any of you call a politician out because he failed at a task or ideas didn't go as planned, take a good look at this little message board you were a part of and you will probably find the reason why there wasn't success. For as great of debaters some of you think you are ... you failed to have a civilized forum on your own. You need someone here to wipe your nose, and swat you hands. For those against moderation, see ... err ... this forum. For those that took their ball and went home ... they too failed, even bigger. Shall they never forget the combination code into their gated community. I'll moderate the place for now ... I just sharpened my axe. |

Kill???? It seems to me that Shep and Cal kept it alive. Here's an idea. Why not just give Heck and Toop their own closed private board that has maybe 3 or 4 members. The rest of us could read it and be enlightened but not soil it with any contrary ideas. That way they wouldn't be offended (thereby punishing us with drought or crop failure) , and we commoners could discuss their insights here within the limits of our ability to understand. WSS |

Now I'm upset about Steve referring to crop failure. "sniff"

Yes, and after an apparent attempt at drowning, there isn't a whole lot discussion going now anymore is there? I know, you can come up with funny sarcastics lines and Cal can respond in his Scooby Doo impersonation.
Ahhhh ... the old Rich & Ghoolie style of 'building-up a message board'
Done ... carry-on. |

Stan, I offer to do it. All complaints come to me and I will mediate or take other action. Everybody here needs to step back and take a deep breath. I have some ideas that might augment ah hoc posts that tend to drive message boards. My ax is as dull as most of my posts but my bite is much worse than my bark. Why can't we all just live together. |

Is that another way of saying, "Kiss my asp"? If not, please define 'PM' so this gamoke can understand. |

PM = 'Private Message' a new feature here (for the past two years) that allows you to communitcate with other members privately. Look at the top tool bar on this page and you will see a 'PM' tab, click on it .... |

Yes, and after an apparent attempt at drowning, there isn't a whole lot discussion going now anymore is there? Seems so to me. It's an elaction cycle. Hecks personal attacks don't make the place better, as I see it. I know, you can come up with funny sarcastics lines and Cal can respond in his Scooby Doo impersonation. Yes I can. Humor and sarcasm is sadly missing in the self important ramblings of a lot of the "true believers." And Cal's cut and pastes are every bit as valid as any from the Huff or Frank Rich. IMO.
Ahhhh ... the old Rich & Ghoolie style of 'building-up a message board' Not at all. I hear no crying from the right about Shep or Rich even though they're as over the top as Cal ever is. Yet they're lefties so no complaints. Why is that? In a political forum I believe both sides are needed. And supressing any point of view (especially only one) ....... Well I think it's bad. WSS |

I didn't seek a Moderator in this place for much of the same reasons. However, I just started combing through many threads and have seen where a thread about a guy being hacked on a bus was quickly turned into a slur about Obama and then derailed a different direction until a few level-headed members got it back on track to a topic about a man being hacked on a bus (again).
A little chairing wouldn't hurt, and should produce a better-managed podium for all discussion. If you are alluding that I'm only listening to the "lefties" complaints, then I take that as a compliment because I'm as conservative as they come. |

In other words, Stan:
Cartoons about Bush featuring his big ears were funny to the left (and right) and no problem. Cartoons about Obama featuring his big ears, and the left is outraged, angry, want people banned, the race card is played, and a few of the worst threaten to leave. Now, Ate, just think about that. And moderate all you like. BTW, you should go back a ways and comb through more threads, instead of whining about the most recent. Steve and I didn't start the storm. |

You're just the two left here bickering and being non-productive toward a solution. That's what I have to go on. |

I understand that Stan. What I'm saying is that only the lefties call to ban or otherwise squelch conversation. Bush bashing is fine but don't dare insult that addled old hausfrau Pelosi by God!! There have to be at least two sides in a political discussion. On a Browns site keeping Steeler talk off is at least understandable. As to the bus hacker, I didn't comment as he was Canadian born as I understand and therefore not eligible to be Obama's running mate. WSS |

I'm behind Chic John. Politically, we agree on little, but I like the guy and he's fun to cross swords with (actual swords, not urine swords). He'll do a good job.
We don't need censorship. We just need to make it a quality board without the infantile bullshit. |

Maybe it'd be good to ask people to provide links to the articles they post.
As someone who posts a lot of stuff I've found on blogs or other sources, I try to link so people realize the content's not from the AP wire or (conversely) one of the political parties. Someone asked me a while back to show them how to link, so I've already got something typed up. If anyone needs some help, PM me & I'll send it to you. |

Former Players Boost Calhoun's Spirits, Recruitment By MIKE ANTHONY | Courant Staff Writer August 5, 2008 STORRS — - These are trying days for UConn coach Jim Calhoun, who appreciates a boost to his spirit now more than usual. He's in the seventh and final week of radiation treatments that followed surgery May 6 to remove a cancerous growth from the right side of his neck. He's a little weak, a little hoarse, and not really feeling, sounding or acting like himself. Calhoun spent most of his time a step back from the action Sunday and Monday as his staff and others pushed 24 high school players through the paces at the Connecticut Elite Camp, but that isn't to say he wasn't fully involved on an emotional level. Especially when Rudy Gay showed up Monday to play a few games and speak to campers. Seeing and hearing from former players is always an injection of energy and joy for Calhoun, entering his 23rd season at UConn. "You certainly look forward to it," Calhoun said. "I've actually talked to [many] of them on the phone. Almost all the kids have called and said, 'I'm praying for you, Coach,' that type of thing. There's something about getting up at 5:30 every morning [for radiation]. I've had a lot of time to think driving back and forth, and there's no question there's a ton of thought. To see a lot of the kids and [remember] why it's so worthwhile to do what you do, this weekend spells that out. Just by nature, these type of things bring upon ... I don't want to say melancholy, but reflection, for sure." As assistant coach Patrick Sellers said Monday, "It's like all of his sons are coming home." Whether it be Ben Gordon, now a Bulls guard, walking into the basketball offices with a different twinkle in his eye or Gay, returning after two years with the Grizzlies as a polished and confident adult, Calhoun loves how many former players recognize the UConn program and his guidance as important building blocks. Donny Marshall spoke Sunday afternoon. Kevin Ollie spoke Sunday night. On Monday, Gay put on a show during pickup games and delivered a message with the microphone. "I told them exactly how it is," said Gay, who averaged 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds last season. "When you step in between these lines [at Gampel] there's a certain amount of pride you have to have in the game and the school. Everybody who is here comes back for a reason. I came back for a reason — to show my respect." Last year, Caron Butler and Ray Allen spoke at the elite camp, which is instructional but also a recruiting opportunity. UConn is interested in about eight of the players, most notably center Daniel Orton from Oklahoma City, guard Dominic Cheek from St. Anthony's in New Jersey and guard Durand Scott from New York. The Connecticut Elite Camp is one of several these players attend, so having NBA players on hand is important for recruiting. "We have guys that believe enough in the experience they had here to come back," assistant coach Andre LaFleur said. "Just to see heads turn is funny. At one point, one of the kids was looking at Rudy and said, 'I can't believe he's standing right over there.'" The early session Sunday focused on trying to recreate a UConn practice, as coaches simulated the in-season routine. Games were then played, and coaches looked for players' ability to implement what they learned. Monday was more about every camper enjoying the experience. Having Gay on hand was the highlight for campers and Calhoun. "He's a 'SportsCenter' highlight tape," Calhoun said. "He comes back four or five times a year. ... He's such a spectacular player, you're certainly going to remember him." |
