I mentioned in a deleted thread that I think Cal is much smarter than the persona he's been inhabiting. When you divorce the discussion from partisan allegiances & personal animosities, he seems to be a very smart, open-minded guy. That's the kind of thing I had in mind when I suggested we add some mods. Maybe that's not what the mods do on the football board, but that's the kind of "soft power" moderation this board could use.

Well, Al, you're a kinder, gentler man than I. I think it's as difficult to talk politics with Cal as it is to talk football with Lumbergh. It's like running your head into a wall.

I completely agree. Just like with Heck & Tupa, it'd be nice to have Preacher as a mod just to make sure he's around more often. And he'd be a terrific moderator.

I have read this board frequently this summer and it was primarily because of heck and Toop's incredibly interesting conversations.

Those two made looking at this board worthwhile again and brought in a pretty interesting, intelligent and diverse group of posters who, for the most part, had civilized and fairly intelligent discussions on a myriad of important topics. I think those two should have a real say in who should moderate this board because it would be a shame if it went back to being what it was before.

As for me, I know that I cut back my visits here when heck and Toop and some others evidently took their conversations private. I think it's a shame that conversations were forced off the board, for whatever reason, so if a mod' can help bring everyone back, that would be a positive.

Finally, Cal, though I think you go overboard in your thread starters and your name calling, your point about respect and civility being practiced across the board is well taken.

There's no point in having the right to free speech if no one is willing to listen to you. Hopefully we'll all take that to heart and try to be a little more open-minded.
