Folks, this forum was created to clear such 'violating wallpaper' from the other Sports forums this place is related to.

One part of me says, "good, let this place die, it was a redheaded stepchild anyway" .. another part saw how much enjoyment and debate and attention was drawn here over the past year.

I don't use this forum (much), so for those who do - please suggest to me your idea for a better forum?

I like the idea of a Moderator(s) present. And like the nominees that Aloysius mentioned (Heck & Tupa, Legacy &/or Dency or all). We recently have been hiring Moderator help throughout the other forums, but stopped here because we weren't sure we'd find anyone not one-sided enough.

If you are interested in Moderating this Forum, please PM me with a brief explanation of why you would be the right person for the job.

In response to one of Al's recent posts:

A lot of people are on vacation, Al, and a lot of people are turning their attention to NFL camps, etc.

Asking Stan to have the board moderated is no solution. Time and picking and choosing which posts to read, which ones to skim and which ones to skip usually serves everybody better than constraining access.

Although I might or might not agree with the majority of Cal's posts, for example, I don't oftentimes find them interesting or provocative in a edutainment format. Therefore, I generally pass on them. However, there are others here that are, at least, as bad as him IMHO.

There are more than several other posters on this board that are at least as redundant, persistant, and unyielding as Cal.

Do you include them or do you choose to constrain only those you don't agree with?

Well, for working on the college board, I was promised a post by at least 75% of the regular board members admiting that, in fact, the SEC is the best conference in the country. Plus a tub of Romeo Crennel Skin Moisturizer/Ice Cream Topping.

Dennis
Although I think it would take at least two tubs to convince most people to moderate this board.

I'm sure some people are focusing on camp or away on vacation, but I also know that some people are staying away because they feel their threads are being hijacked or they don't have the time to sift through duplicate threads.

It's not a partisan thing: both Shep and Legacy have expressed concerns about this.

That's why I think either a bipartisan group of mods or some fairly non-partisan guys would make a lot of sense.

Perhaps appointing mods isn't a perfect solution, but it's better than banning people or having the board die through the attrition of frustrated long-standing posters.

I blew in here today and promptly disgarded a thread. I've considered deleting others. With a Moderator aboard, that may become a daily routine. Is that what you all want?

Why don't everyone just cool down a bit, and limit your posts to one, two or three per day for a few weeks.

I'm a hack of a Moderator, because I don't put up with shit. I ain't going to read through a thread picking and chosing individual posts to delete. I'll read one or three posts and depending what time of the month it is, I may just wipe out the entire thread without batting another eye. If one particular poster is causing trouble in a second thread, I may just wipe out all of his/her posts for the past few days or week. I'm not here to baby sit, just put out fires with this here axe.

Get along or meet somewhere and punch each others face in. Just respect the forum and site.

John, you always were a good fence sitter, we could toss in some Billiard lessons, and minor league baseball bleacher seats as compensation for the Mod position.

Wow I am gone for a week and someone's panties are in a wad. Not sure how you are going to moderate this, it is going to get heated, politics always does. I saw deal with the individuals at fault if there are any. Personal attacks and constant jibberish are not requied.

Well, I don't know if it takes that long to go through the threads; I can usually tell by the title--and poster--whether or not I'm interested in reading them. Posts with incomprehensible titles and HI-larious "misspellings" of the candidate's name? Pass. The ignore button works wonders, too--I can breeze through twenty posts by [name redacted], [name redacted], and [name redacted] in a couple of seconds. The downside is that threads sometimes get bogged down by people responding to guys who clearly don't have that much of an interest in discussing things like grown-ups, and that is a problem, but not one with a readily apparent solution.

As for threads going in different directions, unfortunately there's no way to prevent it; last year I started a thread on the big board about a bar fight in Oklahoma in which a Texas fan got his testicles ripped off by an Oklahoma fan (a deacon in his church, too, if I recall correctly), and within a couple of responses we got a condemnation of Shep celebrating troops' deaths. No segue, mind you--just "And people like Shep cheer when the troops get killed."

Never mind that he doesn't, never mind that the response was, well, retarded, but away we went--I think that thread went to about five pages. The point being, it's almost impossible to keep some poste...I mean conversations under control.

Dennis

What do you mean by "bogged down"?

If you mean that interesting discussions sometimes pop up within poorly-titled threads, then you've got why people are having trouble sifting through all the threads.

In that situation, I imagine changing the thread title wouldn't be too great a constraint on the original poster's privileges. In all but the most extreme cases, there shouldn't be any need to ban someone or delete a thread.

An additional issue is that, realistically, people are only going to glance at the top five or six threads in the forum. So if someone's serial posting on a topic/candidate, then good discussions are likely getting ignored.

I don't know if eve allows you do this, but other boards let you pin a thread somewhere below the top of the page. So you could have something like The Make fun of Obama Osama while his bark is falling off thread pinned in a place where it won't push down the top four or five threads, but it also would be readily available on the first page of the board.

Once again, there's no need to go around deleting stuff. The most oppressive thing a moderator here may have to do is collapse multiple threads into one.

If that makes things easier and enlivens the board a little, I don't see why that shouldn't be done.

I agree.

Not sure if I could handle the responsibility of, nor the aptitude test requirement for being a moderator, but I would approve of the other nominees without a doubt. I do appreciate the thought, though.

I come here to check out other peoples opinions and find out why they may or may not agree with how I feel on political issues. I lean kind of right, but learn a ton from both right (Toop) & left (Al, Heck, & shep), and everyone in between (Dennis, Chicopee).

edit
Allow me to clarify my post. The political sides of the aisle groupings of the regulars mentioned above were not meant to be taken as insults or absolutes. They are absolutely relative descriptors (for this board).
And not to dogpile on Cal, but I've yet to see a tree with as much bark that is apparently falling from Obama. I may not care for the guy either, but it's almost to the level of spamming the board. That's what my concern was over (that Al pointed to).

Im intrigued by politics & I treat this board like a college course that you only have to write papers for if you feel like it. I'd like to see it revert back as it was (prior to the POTUS noms were selected). Same board - trim the fat.

I would want a pay check. I'm not moderating for free. At least of cut from the Browns Store Profits.

I'm HUGELY confused if my thread updating poll results was the one pulled (and it was, seemingly). No insults, no 10-year-old "Obumbly" stuff, no nonsense at all. No name calling. Nothing.

Yet it disappeared. Was it some kind of test?

Honestly, nobody but Cal is going over the top or being ridiculous. I'm not looking for any kind of forum where everybody agrees with me -- Chic John and Leg can disagree with me and we have fun discussing it.

Cal isn't here to learn OR to share meaningful information. He's here to paper the town with absolute bullshit propaganda under title about Hitlery, Obumbly, and HIGHLY offensive shit about a presidential candidate's wife, calling her an evil bitch among other things.

Is that legal? Sure. Does it make for a good discussion board? No. If he dropped one of those stink bombs once a month it would be fine, but he drops them five a day.

I'd say leave out grotesque insults of each other AND of candidates. No more retarded, juvenile titles or disrespectful smears. Let's make it a valid, informative, intelligent place to debate across party lines.

Just a little remodeling.

Well, assuming that I am not part of the big problem here, I volunteer to help keep things in order.

This being said, I have a high tolerance for provocative talk while, at the same time, believing that "you can't fix stupid".

Just for the record, folks, I kicked Stan's butt in billiards both in CT and in the 'Canton' (?) Valley. Without a sweat.
