I dont think by FAR it is a foregone conclusion that Obama will be beaten by Mccain. Obama has shown he is an effective at upsetting the once thought unstoppable Clintons. That campaign has yet to retool to win against Mccain.
He will make the connection very easily in the general election that Mccain is an extension on Bush Policies. That will be a powerful message that clearly a majority of Americans are unhappy with. Our social security surplus is gone, Our dollar value is terrible, the price of gas in the summer will spike possibly to 5.00/gallon, the "war/occupation" of Iraq will be in the same state, health insurance and job availabiliy will be the same. All of those things Mccain will not likely change in any way with his positions. Regardless if Obama can actually change any of them his positions do represent a change in direction which I think a lot of people will buy into, couple that with the obvious support he will win with the black, and educated populations along with the young he has a extremely good shot at beating Mccain. Regardless of of rabid supporters of Clinton stating they will be upset and possibly vote for Mccain I believe a majority of those people will get over it and support Obama. Their positions are clearly very similar and a lot of her supporters clearly dont agree with Bush and or Mccains positions. The dems will move very aggressively to unify to take back power in washington. I will be honest, a few months ago I was heavily leaning toward Mccain but that has eroded steadily to a neutral postion because of Obama and even Clintons positions have come clearer. Obama seems to have that effect of pulling a lot of once undecided or even people who favored the other candidate. I was not around for Kennedy but I have to surmise he had that same magnetizing delivery in his speeches also. |

I think Jack Kennedy's death has made him a saint. Obamas speeches electify his followers. So did Reagans. WSS |

Exactly. If it were overturned tomorrow, the most it would do would be to kick the decision to the states, which would have to write, debate, and pass their own abortion laws, which would be subject to the same kinds of judicial review. It seems logical that some states would make it illegal, but not all, and there's no guarantee that states will behave the way we think they would, or that their laws would stand up on appeal. In add due respect, despite his cult of personality (and the emergence of TV across households), it is likely that JFK still needed Daly and the Mafia to 'win' the election. The Mafia (with Daly) was to deliver Illinois and Kennedy was to deliver Cuba. When Cuba didn't happen.............. |
