Just say you never heard a word that links the gas tax relief with windfall profits.
I won't laugh.
Honest.

No, they're two different things. I can't help it if you don't know the difference.

No, because they're two different things, which you didn't realize until I pointed it out.

The reason I can't follow your thinking from post to post isn't because I'm huffy. It's because your thinking doesn't track from post to post.

As I said she's been talking about it all weekend.
Replace the gas tax with the windfall tax.

Obama wants to install the winfall tax but keep the gas tax.

I'm assuming McCain would drop the gas tax and not replace it.

Now me? I don't think it's gonna make much difference no matter what.
But I'm almost positive that any tax will be wasted to it's least useful measure.

I didn't say that.
You follow fine but pretend not to.
I think you're just naturally huffy.
rant

It's because your thinking doesn't track from post to post.

Where am I inconsistent in my views?
(besides the fact that there ain't one 'O these posts that stay directly on the subject.

But love it or not Hillary's gas relief is directly tied to winfall tax.

No, that's not what she's proposing. You've got it wrong.

She's joined McCain on the idea of a summer gas tax holiday. The difference is that she says she's going to make up the revenue with a tax on the oil companies, whereas McCain simply forfeits the revenue. Except that her proposal doesn't make any sense, because if you repeal the gas tax and then tax the oil companies to make up the difference, guess what you just did? Nothing. The price of gas goes nowhere.

Plus, that's different than the tax she's talking about levying on the oil companies, which is an older proposal that was to be used to fund alternative energy technology. Obama has a similar proposal, both of which are stupid and politically calculated.

You're also wrong on McCain. He's not saying we should drop the gas tax. He's advocating a temporary cut over the summer, after which it would return to the present figure.

So to recap: Hillary is proposing to cut the gas tax over the summer, and replace the lost revenue with an additional (also fictional, since she wouldn't be in office until January, 2009) tax on the oil companies, which means there'd be no benefit to the consumer since the oil companies would then pass on that cost to the person buying the gas.

At least McCain's plan would give the consumer some benefit, although it's miniscule and you'd lose billions in federal revenue, about 50%-%60 of which is earmarked to transportation projects.

In short, she's full of shit. Which is why I started this thread.
McCain and Hillary are for the summer gas tax holiday. Obama is against it.

And good for him.

Well that's what she's been saying all weekend.
And I summed up the three proposals just right.
You repeated them and then said no.
Geez.
Hillary cut the tax and make up the revenue with windfall.
Savings to consumer in theory.
McCain drop the gas tax and eat it.
Savings in theory to consumers.
Obama keep the gas tax and adds the windfall.
Everybody pays more.

It doesn't matter if any or all are workable or stupid but that's the basics.

You're just being contrary.

"Basic" being the operative word.

And I'm not being a contrarian. Your posts are so basic, and so full of holes, or outright falsehoods, that it's really no mystery that you can't tell the difference between anything.

Completely.
But rest easy, that's a tiny fraction of all the shit you're wrong about.

Let's forget Steve for a bit and get back to the topic.

Now what is she talking about?

"We’re going to go right at OPEC," she said. "They can no longer be a cartel, a monopoly that get together once every couple of months" at a hotel in "some plush place in the world" to set prices, she told a crowd a volunteer fire house in Merillville.

This is getting weirder by the day.

Hillary wants to sue the OPEC countries through the WTO and get them to increase production.

Two problems with that:

1. Of the 13 OPEC member states, 4 aren't members of the WTO. So any WTO suit wouldn't apply to them.

2. As Megan McArdle points out, OPEC isn't currently keeping prices high by restricting production. The rise in oil prices is demand-based; developing countries like China and India are consuming more and more energy.

Oh, McArdle's also pretty funny here:
quote:
Hillary Clinton wants to sue OPEC for not producing oil from wells they haven't drilled yet. Next: a lawsuit against Ford for not building us the cool flying cars we were promised in The Jetsons. I WANT MY FLYING CAR!!!!

I'd like one too. If Hillary promises me one, she'll have my vote.

I love how the Dems always talk about how it is "us against the elite".

"Elite" has to be the biggest weasel-word in the history of the planet. For one thing, what does it mean, exactly? The Yankees have been an elite team for years. Why? Because they win all the time. The Navy Seals are an elite fighting force. Why? Because if you fight them, you will die.

So...the cultural/business/media elites are people who must be opposed because they do their jobs well?

But no, it's because these "elites" run everything from their bases in Hollywood...or was it Washington?...or maybe Cambridge and New Haven? Of course, it's all of those places and more. When Sean Hannity whines about the Hollywood elites, what's he suggesting? That there is a small group of people who, because of their wealth, general agreement on issues, and market share, exert an undue amount of influence on the people who listen to them. You know, like Sean Hannity does on the radio.

It works both ways--liberals hate undustry elites, who rob us blind and control our thoughts through media manipulation. Conservatives hate media elites, who destroy our common values by making us hate guns and love boys kissing.

Not only is it a weasel word, its use makes no sense whatsoever. When Hillary Clinton says that she doesn't want to listen to a bunch of economic elites, she is essentially saying that she doesn't want to listen to people who know what they're talking about. Which might make you feel better if you aren't one of the elite, but only if you're a moron. Too harsh? Fine--the next time your doctor tells you that you should really get that lump checked out, feel free to tell him that you choose not to be bullied by the "medical elite."

Dennis
College boy, eh?

That post was just crazy and it is clear your have blindly opposed Ms Hillary with a passion..........vote for McCain that is what you will do anyway no matter
