Not one of my favorite Human Beings, but a Human Being, after all. Wouldn't wish this on anybody. God Bless.

BOSTON — Sen. Ted Kennedy has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, FOX News confirms.

Doctors for the Massachusetts Democrat said Tuesday that "preliminary results" from tests conducted on Kennedy after a seizure sent him to the hospital over the weekend confirmed the diagnosis.

"Preliminary results from a biopsy of the brain identified the cause of the seizure as a malignant glioma in the left parietal lobe," the doctors said in a statement, adding that treatment would likely include "combinations of various forms of radiation and chemotherapy."

The doctors said that he was in "good condition" and had not suffered any more seizures since Saturday.

"Decisions regarding the best course of treatment for Senator Kennedy will be determined after further testing and analysis," they said. "Senator Kennedy will remain at Massachusetts General Hospital for the next couple of days according to routine protocol. He remains in good spirits and full of energy."

The 76-year-old senator has been hospitalized in Boston since Saturday, when he was airlifted from Cape Cod after a seizure at his home.

His wife and children have been with him each day but have made no public statements.

Malignant gliomas are a type of brain cancer diagnosed in about 9,000 Americans a year — and the most common type among adults. It's a starting diagnosis: How well patients fare depends on what specific tumor type is determined by further testing.

Average survival can range from less than a year for very advanced and aggressive types — such as glioblastomas — or to about five years for different types that are slower growing.

I'm no doctor, but I can't imagine his body is in great shape to endure the type of treatments he's going to need, and that would limit the ability to treat him as hard as they may want to.

On the plus side, he's probably surrounded by the best doctors in the world in one of the best hospitals in the world.

Wow. I wish him all the best.

Is it in poor taste to wonder if this will make Mitt Romney a US Senator? I make no assumptions about TK's health except that this seems like a reasonable time to retire.

No, that discussion has already begun, I assure you.

Does Bill Weld now move back to Massachusetts and try it again? Perhaps he's on the Acela back to Boston as we speak.

I'd think Romney may have a pretty tough time winning an election in Massachusetts now. It'd be an uphill battle. He was not very popular when he left, as it was clear to everyone that he was simply using his office and the state to appeal to voters in places like South Carolina and Iowa.

I wonder who would come out of the woodwork for that seat. Would Joe Kennedy jump back into politics? I'd watch out for that.

I could see William Delahunt an Ed Markey and Marty Meehan all thinking about it, but you know who I really think would go for it?

Barney Frank.

I was just talking with a friend and we both agreed that we thought he'd be the next Senator from Massachusetts.

It's pretty common knowledge that he wants to run.

Good thing that Frank wants to run. He is pretty light in the loafers.

Nice one. On the one hand, Frank is a very sharp guy, and also very eloquent--some of his floor speeches are works of art.

On the other hand, he can be downright insufferable at times--if you've ever seen him on Real Time, he's often disagreeable with people who agree with him, because they're talking and he's not. Come to think of it, I think that might make him a perfect candidate for the Senate.

Wouldn't be surprised if the hospital 'let' them sneak in some brewskis.

His politics have always been trash.

It's too bad he has medical problem.

Good luck to him. Just don't come back to the Senate.

While I have disagreed with him politically on almost EVERYTHING...

I wish him the best.

If this is his time, I pray he goes quickly and quietly, that family has suffered through enough over the last 50 years.

Ted Kennedy a rhino's rear end.

He cared so much about the young lady in his car,
he split and left her to drown.

He maligns this country, and our troops.

He stinks.

But I am sorry he has a medical problem and I hope he recovers.

George Bush murdered 150,000 Iraqi's and 4000 American soldiers and not by accident but on lying and perjuring to our nation and the world on his vendetta of hate war not like Ted with one person....by accident....but by design

love the murderer and hate the guy who erred in judgment

and Ted got no troops killed in a useless war based on lies and we now have 4000 dead troops.........who is maligning the troops?

Being half Irish on my Mothers side, I grew up hearing nothing but praise for the Kennedy's. I remember I was in 3rd grade in 1963 listening to a radio program in class when it was interupted saying Kennedy had been shot. I remember my Irish Catholic mother crying hysterically when I got home from school. Funny how you remember things. I never liked Ted too much. But I feel compassion. I hope he doesn't suffer. It looks like he has the worst type of cancer.

regardless of his politics that I agree with some and not so much with others he has served the people a long time.

It is to bad that the Radio frequency treatments for heating up cancer is not ready yet. These types of cancers are the ones that are perfect for that technology.

I am sincerely sorry to see him this ill and possibly leave this world in such a painful way.

Dr. Hoorta checks in. That would be correct. Gliomas are bad news. Brain tumors are rated on a 1 to 5 scale, 5 being the worst. We don't know that yet. But in general if you're old, the prognosis is really lousy- a year or less.

I'll check in with my real doctor friend that happens to be a neurologist (that's the guy that diagnoses and treats brain tumors short of surgery) in a day or so- and give you guys a full report.

And ditto that- I despise Ted's politics, but I wish him well. Only thing- the national media already has the violins out, that Kennedy tragedy thing. Sheeze, what's the diff between Ted having a brain tumor, and Regan dying of Alzheimer's? You think Ted was gonna live forever?

No offense against you personally Hoorta,
However you view the politics, lets talk about family.
You had a brother die in WWII,and in less than six years your two other brothers are murdered on national television!

Many people have a hard time in there life overcoming a single personal tragedy let alone all he carried with him.

Without looking up the exact dates I believe that the "Mary Jo incident" happened less than six months after Bobby's death,im not trying to excuse him in anyway for his actions that night but I do get tired of people after all this time throwing stones at him over a horrible accident at a very horrible time in his or any human beings life.

Whatever "truly" happened that night right or wrong he has paid the price many times over and in most cases nobody knows his politics other than,1. He's a Kennedy,2. He's a democrat, and 3. The Mary Jo incident.

He's now dying and he can rot in hell or whatever most conservatives want him to do but before you condemn someone think about where they have been before you hurl the rock.
