Wow. Died of a heart attack.
His father is still alive. That's bizarre. How sad. |

That's terrible news. He was one of the best. Nothing very much to add; he did a great job on Meet the Press and elsewhere, and you could always tell how much he loved the political discussion.

Tom Brokaw's announcement/tribute to Russert was poignant & clearly heartfelt.
You can watch it here. |

Liberal or conservative, Tim Russert was tough and respectful to all sides. A true class act and one of the best interviewers of all time. Sad day.
RIP Mr. Russert |

DD...
As I posted on my home board... he was intellectually honest with everyone, liberal or conservative. I am saddened that at a time when our country needs media people like him... he passes away. |

Thanks so much for posting that, Alo. I shared it with my Dad, who was upset that he missed the initial coverage about the death of a man who was the source of so many conversations between the two of us. Brokaw was magnificent in that piece. Russert was just a magnificent guy. Beanpot |

Wow how sad, I will miss watching him on meet the press. He always seemed fair to all sides and passionate about politics.

That's terrible . A father should never have to bury his son. Tim was a class guy. WSS |

He made being fair and respected by both sides of the political fence seem easy.
He's one of a few who had the ability to do that. What a sad, devasting loss. |

This news truly broke my heart.
I actually mourned this man's passing as if I knew him. What does that say about a guy? I watched the Meet the Press this past Sunday when they just talked about Russert. Very moving and very funny. He really seemed like the real deal. I got to see him speak at John Marshall School of Law's commencement last year. Great, great speaker, funny, on point, easy to listen to to, intelligent. Everything they said about him seemed true from what I saw. Just a shame. God bless you and your family, Tim. |

I thought that the coverage on the networks was a bit overboard, even if it was understandable--he was a major player, but other things were happening. MSNBC pretty much shut down for a day and a half, when there were important stories to report, like the long-term negotiations between Iraq and the US and the flooding in the midwest.
That said, it was nice to hear so many tributes that painted him as not just a sharp man and terrific host, but as a great family man and surprisingly average guy. I've also seen some stuff from his son, who seems like a great kid. Here's a picture of Luke Russert on the Meet the Press set--he wanted to make sure that he got his dad's chair as a memento, and it made for a nice photo: Dennis |
