Well, I really don't understand how this board got to the point where contributing and valued members either literally leave or, at least, are considering leaving because of what other's may or may not do.

First of all, I am not prone to be heavy-handed - even light-handed, for that matter. I wish there was no Moderator at all.

However, I am more interested in helping Stan sustain and grow his 'labor of love'. Don't misunderstand - Stan does a lot of things, including investing a lot of personal time and money to keep this ship afloat. It is not a profit-making ordeal.

There is plenty of 'blame' to go around, IMHO. Cal has become the poster boy for deviant behavior but, clearly, some of his 'opponents' oftentimes come across as mean-spirited and infantile as the accuse him of being.

When I worked for Lego, the Danes used to tell us to, "Go after the ball, not the man". I believe this is a good message, both in business and in life in general.

So, let's try to stay true to the topic of the thread and let's try to conduct ourselves in a way that we'd be proud to have our children read our posts.

I am going to try to identify articles, etc. that raise an 'issue for debate' without the need to mention the words, 'Democrat', 'Republican', 'Bush', 'Obama', Clinton, etc., etc.

God bless America and good night.

Sounds fair to me. I hereby vow to stop calling Cal retarded. I hold these truths to be self evident (!).

No, seriously. I'll stop now.

I agree. I would love to see it.

But, I may be the poster boy, but my outrageous has always been in rebellion against posts like these two from Shep:

(and now that we have a moderator? I'm going back to being myself. That self that Shep doesn't know at all)

Stop the freakin personal attacks. They started a long time ago, and it has driven folks away from the forum, and I'm not saying I wasn't a big part of it. Let it stop now.
*******************************************************
You're a total douchebag with virtual zero redeeming qualities. Don't let the door hit you in the fat, racist, homophobic-but-self-loathing-homosexual ass.Shep
*******************************************

Cal, you do know out in the real world they're talking and writing about what an amazingly positive impression Obama is leaving on the world, and that he's almost wiped away eight years of Bush in about three days, right? That he's being adored and cheered by your beloved troops, by officers, and every foreign dignitary?

Cal, you can support whomever you choose. But Obama is an intelligent, dynamic, and deeply devoted guy... and a true American success story.

You, on the other hand, are an ignorant racist. Shep

I'm sure Al finds these objectionable, too.

You drove me to it, as everybody here knows.

But I'll stop if you'll stop. We'll both stop.

Everybody here knows you cast the first stone.

Signed,

I live in a glass house too. Smile

I am stopping. I think everybody will be happy.

Ok, now I have totally stopped.

>>Ok, now I have totally stopped.>>

Hopefully, you aren't totally stopped posting, Cal. You have an inportant voice here and, properly positioned, you probably will have more folks actually think about what you have to say.

Thinking is better than reacting to provocitive-bating language.

PS Change the name from Cal to whomever else might also fall into this category and we have a valid and spirited exchange of IDEAS.

John: thanks for taking the job. Great point about posting like our children are reading. I use a similar self-editing question that I humbly propose to others. Ask yourself: would I actually SAY this sentence to someone's face? If you wouldn't say it, you probably shouldn't post it.

Stan: thanks for hosting this site and including this red-headed step-child of a forum.

All: I count on you guys for my entertainment and edification, especially this year. I look forward to more good and interesting discussions down the road...

May I suggest that people try to post a littl em

There is plenty of 'blame' to go around, IMHO. Cal has become the poster boy for deviant behavior but, clearly, some of his 'opponents' oftentimes come across as mean-spirited and infantile as the accuse him of being.
