It was all over the news yesterday, guys. He set the all time record for highest disapproval rating. That's impressive.
I love seeing those W stickers now. Kind of a scarlet letter. |

I honestly like this thread it always makes me chuckle. Diehard well being Diehard and shep with your delivery, you two are polar opposites like the odd couple.

I get the feeling that Diehard and I both thought the other only existed in the movies. I'm still not convinced he isn't pulling an Andy Kaufmann on us.
Eight years ago, when Bush first won the White House, I felt as out of touch with "mainstream America" as humanly possible. I just couldn't fathom that the chucklin', blathering, uninformed retard on my TV screen could actually be elected president. My neck aches from spending all the time since just shaking my head in continued awe and wonder. The whole patriotic thing that seemed like one big SNL joke, the emboldened rednecks and hawks, the fierce anti-intellectualism that ripples through this election (Hillary does shots! Obama bowls! Eat the elite!)... all of it just blew my mind. Polls like this make me sense a rising sun. |

Aww come on shep, you are a bright individual. You know that a vast percentage of the population are either below or average intelligent. That population is who is in control not the intellectual elite or the best and brightest. That population does not like to feel stupid or responsible for anything that is negative. The republican machine hedged the percentages and turned an obviosly more intelligent Gore into a laughing stock.
Bush in his first run was someone easily identifiable to the masses and the christian right. They obviously dont like to feel threatened or stupid. His second term was all about the terror alerts and fear, the other great motivator for humans. This was not rocket science, I dont believe Rove was a "genius" cunning yes, genius has never been shown. My life is filled with extremes in personalities and education levels. I have contractors that are exactly like Diehard and I have Alumnus friends that are more like you. I love that about america and we can all believe and live differently in the same country without resorting to violence. |

Sev, the Democrat "machine" pretends that Gore is more intelligent. He is not. At least I would bet a great deal of money that there is not a significant difference among the intelligence of Gore Kerry Obama Hillary or Bush. But most self important lefties I know love to pretend they're smarter. WSS |

Steve honestly i dont truly know if Bush versus Gore how that would pan out. All I have to go on is how he has done since in office. Obviously the social security surplus and his fuzzy math did not fare so well and neither did we economically or politically internationally or domestically. The war and his bungled idea about prosecuting it into Iraq was another obviously intellectually challenged sign of his obvious incompetence and problem solving.
Who knows maybe Gore would have done the same or worse. My gut says they are two vastly different people based on Gore using his celebrity to mock up on his sensationalist propaganda on global warming. However he does rely on the scientific fields and Universities. That is better than Bush backing intelligent design and censoring scientist in the EPA and Nasa. So the "signs for me" lead me to believe based on his inability to use proper grammer for his speeches and his terrible management along with his track history of failing every private business venture that he is a subpar manager and probably intellectually as well. In your credit a awful lot of what I would term and probably you my "lefty" educated alumnus and friends do like the sound of their own voice too much. They do often incorrectly believe in their intellectual superiority. The truth was personally shown to me when a few years ago I was "hustled" by a old man that i thought was crass and backward. He also owned over 1100 properties in a company he built up himself. He was uneducated, rude, crass and generally dislikable. He burned a me and my partner for over 3 years slowly but surely. Both my partner and myself are highly educated and I thought experienced. His "street smarts" were more than a match for my overinflated ego and sense of self. It was the most expensive course in business and personal awareness that I have ever paid for. The educated elite certainly do not hold a monopoly on intelligence. You might be right about a very little significant difference in average means of intelligence between those candidates. The difference I would definately see is how they apply the knowledge and ability they do have. |

Only an idiot would say such a thing. That was the joke. This is serious: ARE YOU ****ING KIDDING ME??? You don't think there's a significant difference in intelligence between Hillary Clinton or Barrack Obama... and W?? Holy shit, man. You'll just say the most whacked out shit like you actually believe it. You've lost the last thread. |

Crap. That was actually pretty damn funny. When I lived in North Carolina, I came to recognize their scam. As soon as a guy says, "Hey, I'm just a backwoods rube from Booger Mountain," as one actually said to me, you ask him where he got his Master's Degree. They LOVE that shit down there. |

Yeah. I like Hitchens a lot. Even when I don't necessarily agree I think he's entertaining thought provoking and insightful. Don't you? WSS |

I don't like Hitchens' take on politics, but he's a good literary critic. His take on Saul Bellow was really interesting.
It's a shame that he's known more for his political writing. A guy reveling in being an asshole is just annoying when it comes to politics, but it's a breath of fresh air in the uptight world of literary criticism. |
