THE BROWNS BOARD TAILGATE PARTY

Questions & Answers

If you are looking to come in and attend the tailgate party for the first time. Here's a list of Q&A's to help you out:

  • CAN ANYONE ATTEND? We provide these tailgate parties mostly for the members of our Message Board Forum. We specialize in catering to out-of-town fans looking to come into Cleveland and experience the feel of a Tailgate Party without having to lug in grills, tables, coolers, chairs and other necessary items needed to pull-off a full blown party. Everyone who wants to join our party is welcome, there is no prerequisite. We just ask that you read over this page and respect the efforts that we go through in order to cater to new visitors week-in and week-out.

  • WHAT DO WE NEED TO BRING? Nothing ... I take that back, bring your own beverage. Our fine crew will provide the grill, meal, condiments, plates, utensils, tables, atmosphere, etc. We can also provide space in our coolers for your beverage and upon request pick-up your beverage of choice if you are flying in, staying downtown, and don't have the means to visit a store prior to Game day. We will put out a donation can to help off-set our cost and so you don't feel like free-loader. We ask that you pay a small fee ($5-10) for each of those in your party (plus the cost of any beverages that we might pick up for you). We are not looking to profit, but expect to cover our costs from one tailgate party to another. You can bring a dish, desert, bottle, beverage, cigars, etc to share if you want but its not expected. We just ask that you don't set-up camp within our camp and cook your own meal (defeats the purpose).

  • WHERE? Our Tailgate Party has been held in the same lot on the East Bank of the Flats since 1999. However, do to the development overhaul that is already underway in this area, our days are numbered. We will continue to use our same lot for as long as it exist. You can find us by honing into our Tailgate Lot using the following Maps:

    • DOWNTOWN AREA MAP Directions of Downtown and to tailgate parking lot.

    • MAP OF TAILGATE LOT Layout of Tailgate parking Lot, narrowing your search down to our parking spot(s).

    • Google Satellite Image - For those that like a view from the moon, this will illustrate our distance from the stadium.

  • WE WANT TO COME, WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO NEXT? A week  or so prior to your visit, please either visit our  Tailgate Party Forum where you will probably find a post regarding the particular game/party you are coming in for, or e-mail us (roachmstr@aol.com, stan@createns.com) to give us a headcount of how many will be attending in your group. This helps us plan enough food to prepare for each party.

  • WHERE IS A GOOD PLACE TO STAY IN OR AROUND CLEVELAND? We have provided a Hotel Directory to help you with overnight stay. We suggest two locations; Near the Airport (many hotels to choose from in Middleburg Hts) or Downtown. If you are driving in or renting a car, the Middleburg Hts location is about 15-minutes from downtown. If you are without transportation, Clevelands Public Transportation System (RTA) can drop you off near our tailgate spot. The RTA rail systems 'Waterfront Line' (an extension of the Blue/Green Line) can drop you off at the 'Flats East Bank' station, which is only a few hundred yards from our tailgate location. This same line can also drop you off near Cleveland Browns Stadium (West third Street Station).

  • WHO ATTENDS THESE PARTIES? Don't be bashful, over half of the people attending the tailgates met each other here on The Browns Board or one that this site dwarfed from. Our Parties are Mature in nature, we aren't a bunch of college kid groupies that trash a parking lot, see how much beer we can spill down our face, and are back sleeping in our vehicles before the game is at-hand. You'll have fun, and meet a lot of good people with common interest in NFL Football. If you are looking for the craziest tailgate party in Cleveland, we suggest that you seek out the Muni-Lot, where all the lunatics seem to migrate. We also suggest that you register on our FORUMS if you haven't already. You will get to know many of the characters of our tailgates before you ever attend. We look forward to seeing the new faces on the Board as we do at the parties. This group came together because of the Message Board first, the parties came later.

  • WHAT TIME DO YOU START THE PARTY? For 1:00pm Kick-off; We usually start trickling into the lot about 8:30-9:00am. We eat around 11:30am, and clean-up and are ready to head to the stadium around 12:30am. The lot that we are currently in never really fills-up (especially with it being threaten to close down any day now). If it's your first visit to Cleveland Browns Stadium and you want to head to the stadium early so that you have time to check-it-out before kick-off, that is fine by us, many do. Come and go as you like. We do NOT typically party in the lot after the game.

  • HOW MUCH IS PARKING? The lot attendants will charge you approx. $15.00 upon entering the lot. This has nothing to do with us, but is operated by the company that owns the lot. If you get downtown early enough, you can park on the street just outside our lot for free, if you can find an open spot (be careful not to park in front of a fire hydrant).

  • HOW FAR OF A WALK IS YOUR PARTY FROM THE STADIUM? Our lot is on the outer fringe of stadium parking, and will take you 10-15 minutes to walk to or from. Personally, I like the distance as it allows us to out-walk the standing traffic, get into our vehicles and get out of downtown; before most who park in the lots surrounding the stadium are held back by pedestrian traffic and the bog downtown. There are a few back-ways to get out of the city from our lot, we can try to point these routes out to you upon request. Check-out the Satellite Image or if you are physically unable to walk the distance, the RTA has a station a few hundred yards from our party location as well as a few hundred yards from the stadium that can provide you public transportation not only to and from our party to the stadium but from the Airport, Tower City, etc.

  • WHY DO YOU GUYS OPEN UP YOUR TAILGATE PARTIES TO PEOPLE LIKE US? We like having you foreigners in because you guys bring a lot of life and character to the party. Some of you are in for just one game a year and you bring a lot of energy to the game that you will attend. Us locals get a little stale sometimes, we like to feed off our your enthusiasm and it's always great to meet new people and make new friends. We have a good thing going and a niche. We aren't the biggest and best tailgate party going and will never claim or thrive to be ... if the above sounds too good to be true, than you are probably the type of person that we like to party with. Hope to meet you soon!

  • WHAT ARE THE LIQUOR LAWS OR LAWS REGARDING TAILGATING? We can't answer all of your questions regarding the law. We do know that you will need to put all alcoholic beverages into a non-see-through cup (which we can provide). As long as you don't act like an asshole (pardon my French), you won't have anything to worry about. You can not carry an open container (of Alcohol) out on the streets. Stay in the lot(s) and keep bottles out of site. Drink responsibly. We have always remained on good terms with the law enforcement within our parking lot. They know us as good people who have never made trouble and clean-up after ourselves. As far as parking RV's overnight, you will have to check with the CPD on their laws and regulations.

  • IS THERE SOMEONE WE CAN CONTACT FOR FURTHER QUESTIONS? Yes, start by e-mailing Ed & Stan (e-mail us). We can answer your questions through e-mail and provide you with cell phone numbers to contact us  in the event you get lost and can not locate us on Game Day. Below are pictures of Ed, Stan & Don - look for these characters when trying to find us. Through e-mail, we can also provide you with descriptions of our vehicles and other helpful tidbits.

MEET THE MEN BEHIND THE TAILGATE PARTIES:

ED

(aka: Roachmstr)

Ed's probably the nicest guy in the group, he'd throw out his back cooking for ya. If you want to know "What's Cooking?" Ed would be the guy to contact. Ed and Don take lead role in the food preparation.

Diehard Browns Fan, Ed, with his famous "I hate the Steelers" t-shirt

STAN

(aka: ATENEARS)

Stan is the guy that can reel you in. If your a first time visitor or trying to find your way back, Stan will provide Map & Directions to the Tailgate. Once there, look for beer in  hand and shit grin on his face and you've found, "Stan".

DON

(aka: Sperk)

This is the guy behind the scenes that makes it all a success. Don carefully selects the menu for the tailgates and has a major hand in it's preparation. Don works for Jello-shots and cigars, if he starts to whine about his duties just toss him another.

Sperk all dressed up for a picture with his favorite Browns player, Kelly Holcomb
